Wastewater Management Technician Specialist

Job Summary Battelle’s National Security Business Unit is seeking a Wastewater Management Technician Specialist to support Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) efforts to treat and manage water at an operational fire training facility. This position supports the Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC) and is located on‑site at Tyndall Air Force Base, near Panama City, FL. The Technician Specialist will be a self‑starter with experience in processes and systems for water handling, wastewater management, and analysis of water from treatment processes. The candidate should demonstrate broad applied science and engineering skills – practical expertise in chemical, electrical, mechanical and industrial engineering areas. Responsibilities Work on assignments that are complex in nature, using judgment, creativity and initiative to identify problems and provide input into solutions. Perform moderately complex analysis to verify accuracy, applicability and reasonableness of project work; identify ways to control or reduce costs and improve performance without negatively impacting client expectations. Contribute to technical planning of project work, including recommending and implementing improved methods; provide input and justification for capital equipment purchases. Maintain water concentration systems (e.g., thermal evaporators) in working order, ensuring required maintenance, troubleshooting, and performing out‑of‑cycle maintenance; provide insight and input on protocols and process optimization. Provide input and recommendations to Project Managers on time and resources. Complete complex tasks under minimal supervision, planning and performing project work from a basic understanding of objectives and work statements; track progress against milestones and report deviations to the supervisor. Monitor filtration stations; clean or replace filtration materials as needed; collect materials in drums and coordinate hazardous materials processing through the base collection point. Additional responsibilities may include hazardous materials monitoring and working with vendor contractors for processing. Support RDT&E activities such as setup and tear‑down of test equipment, camera setup, assisting with mixing firefighting agents in tanks, and cleanup after tests. Optional duties for candidates with industrial truck operator certification include connecting/disconnecting trailers and driving vehicles with attached trailers to and from test sites. Assist engineers with construction of test apparatus, plumbing piping (metal/PVC). Key Qualifications Associate degree in a related field; 7 years of applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Undertake various certifications or continuing educational units as needed. Demonstrate ability to solve complex problems, exhibit technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills, and complete complex assignments. Generate and follow procedures of significant complexity. Creatively troubleshoot and correctly interpret results to improve work processes for both project and non‑project tasks. Perform complex analysis of data and provide input for reports.
