MLW Coder

Position Summary Responsible for diagnosis coding for all Laboratory records according to established guidelines. Assists with Laboratory Outreach registrations as the need arises. ICD-10 Coding coordination and follow‑up with physician offices. Performs other duties as assigned. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Understand and adhere to the Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors. Review and confirm all Outreach Laboratory requisitions for appropriate diagnosis coding. Enter appropriate ICD-10 diagnosis codes in the HIS. Coordinate contacts with physician offices for diagnosis and/or ICD-10 codes if not provided on the referring prescription. Document phone conversation with physician's office according to Medicare guidelines. Assist MLW Billing Liaison with patient/client follow-up. Consult with Client Service Rep on client ICD-9 coding education issues. Assist with Outreach Laboratory Registrations as the need arises. Perform other duties as assigned. Perform all other related duties as assigned. Education & Experience Requirements High School Graduate capable of typing 45 wpm. Previous hospital experience preferred. Knowledge of CPT-4 and ICD-10 codes preferred. Medical terminology required. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS database can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc. Ability to remain in a stationary position 90% of the time. Constantly utilize/operate computer and other office equipment.
