RN Surgery Duties in Reno, NV PM SHIFTS

Registered Nurses (RNs) in Reno’s surgery and perioperative settings have a wide range of responsibilities that ensure safe, effective, and coordinated patient care.

Core Responsibilities

• Direct patient care : Provide assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and older adults in the peri-operative environment 
• Coordination with surgical team : Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and OR technicians to ensure smooth surgical procedures and patient safety
• Pre- and post-operative care : Assist with pre-admission preparation, intraoperative support, and post-operative recovery, including monitoring vital signs, managing pain, and addressing complications
• Patient safety and compliance : Maintain strict adherence to hospital policies, infection control, fire safety, and safe handling of hazardous materials 
• Documentation : Accurately record patient care from pre-admission through discharge, ensuring continuity of care 
• Equipment and supplies : Ensure proper use and maintenance of surgical and recovery equipment, and coordinate with ancillary departments for diagnostic tests and treatments 
• Team leadership : Guide and direct OR technicians and other personnel, maintaining professional standards and efficient workflow 
• Performance improvement : Participate in unit meetings, in-services, and quality improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes
• Emergency response : Respond promptly to urgent or unusual situations, following established protocols and escalating as needed

Skills and Competencies Required

• Current and valid Nevada RN license
• BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certifications
• Proficiency in body mechanics, patient handling, and surgical procedures
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work under stress and prioritize multiple tasks
