Patients are evaluated and treated on a 1:1 basis, averaging eight patients per day; this schedule enables timely documentation within the workday. Our Torrington Community Hospital seeks a Full‑Time Physical Therapist to provide evaluations and treatments of both outpatient and inpatient populations in a rural setting. The position is day shift (Monday‑Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm) with a rotating weekend schedule (4‑hour Sunday shift every 6–7 weeks). Responsibilities also include supervising assistants as appropriate and coordinating care with patients, caregivers, and providers. POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the evaluation, planning, administration, and supervision of Physical Therapy treatment in accordance with physician referral, state and national standards, regulatory agencies, and departmental policies. It demonstrates the clinical competence needed to provide age‑appropriate treatment.

CORE FUNCTIONS

Evaluate patients’ functional abilities and limitations; determine if intervention is needed; complete a comprehensive evaluation within the department’s time frame; identify and prioritize key limiting factors; establish functional, measurable, patient‑related treatment goals; involve patients and caregivers; initiate discharge planning; recommend adjustments to referring orders. Implement individualized treatment plans that consider patients’ physical, social, spiritual, cultural, educational, and age‑specific needs; provide skilled treatment safely; assess ongoing effectiveness and modify the plan of care as indicated; involve patients and caregivers in decision‑making; provide education to physicians, nurses, patients, and the interdisciplinary team. Document according to regulatory guidelines, legibly and within established time frames; record evidence‑based and individualized techniques; reflect skilled intervention and comprehensive assessment of progress. Communicate patient information promptly and clearly to physicians, nurses, patients, caregivers, and the interdisciplinary team; contact physicians for routine or complex problem‑solving; defend treatment rationale with standard practices and current literature. Show adaptability in caseload, scheduling, and staffing; take initiative to assist in other patient‑care areas and assume responsibility for all patient‑care needs. Demonstrate appropriate supervision and delegation of PTAs, ATCs, therapy technicians, and students; participate in training and orientation of new personnel; ensure competency before delegation. Attend required departmental meetings and support process improvement; meet productivity standards set by the department. Interact with all levels of staff across various departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts, including community agencies and other health‑care institutions; communicate with physician offices to report, request, or clarify information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduated from an APTA‑accredited school of Physical Therapy or equivalent. Current Physical Therapy license in the state of practice; BLS certification required. Demonstrated clinical competency, experience, training, and education through interviews and job‑related experiential questions. Competence with common computer software applications used in automated patient‑care environments, including patient‑care equipment, evaluation tools, therapeutic modalities, copier, telephone, fax, computer, pager, and miscellaneous office equipment.
