The General Manager is the senior on-site leader for a full service hotel located near Bangor, Maine — a historic, full-service boutique property with guest rooms and suites, two dining outlets, and two event venues that host weddings, banquets, and group business throughout the season.

This is a hands-on leadership role accountable for the entire property: people, revenue-generating operations, physical assets, and guest experience. You will build, schedule, and lead the on-site team across food and beverage, events, front desk, and housekeeping; own the property's day-to-day financial performance; coordinate all in-market vendors; and serve as the primary on-site point of contact for guests, event clients, and emergencies. You will not personally perform cleaning, turnovers, laundry, line cooking, or serving; instead, you lead and hold accountable the managers and teams who do.

You will partner closely with Roam Hospitality's remote teams — they handle centralized reservations, guest communications, revenue strategy, marketing, and back-office support, while you ensure the physical property and the on-site guest and event experience meet Roam's standards every day. All work is performed in accordance with Roam Hospitality's SOPs, processes, and brand standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior on-site leader and the face of the property to guests, event clients, staff, vendors, and the local community.
• Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and train on-site team members across all departments; maintain full staffing and reliable coverage year-round.
• Build and approve schedules across restaurants, events, front desk, and housekeeping to match occupancy, the event calendar, and seasonal demand while controlling labor cost.
• Set daily priorities, run team communication (pre-shift, weekly, and event-specific), and hold managers and staff accountable to Roam standards.
• Coach, develop, and performance-manage the team; document performance issues and partner with Roam leadership on corrective action.
• Build the on-site leadership bench so departments run to standard on your days off and during peak periods.

• Oversee day-to-day operations of both dining outlets across front and back-of-house.
• Directly supervise the Restaurant & Events Manager (and/or Chef and FOH lead), holding them accountable for service quality, staffing, cost control, and daily execution.
• Ensure restaurant and bar staff are hired, scheduled, and trained for full, reliable coverage across all service periods, including brunch, holiday, and peak-season demand.
• Oversee food, beverage, and bar ordering; maintain vendor and distributor relationships and verify deliveries against invoices.
• Maintain inventory and par levels for food, beverage, liquor, smallwares, and supplies; conduct regular counts and control food cost, pour cost, and waste.
• Uphold service, cleanliness, and quality standards; ensure opening and closing procedures are completed and documented each day.
• Ensure compliance with health, food-safety, and liquor-licensing requirements, including staff certifications and responsible-service training.
• Oversee POS administration and cash handling; reconcile daily sales and report results to the Roam Operations team.
• Partner with Roam's Revenue and Marketing teams on menu pricing, promotions, and outlet hours to grow F&B revenue.

• Oversee execution of event/sales manager for all events — weddings, rehearsal dinners, banquets, corporate meetings, and group stays
• Supervise the events staff and events manager/coordinator ; ensure every event has a written BEO (banquet event order), a staffing plan, and a clear day-of run of show.
• Conduct site tours and client walkthroughs when event manager not available; participate in planning meetings and final detail calls alongside the events manager and Roam's sales support.
• Serve as an escalation point during events; resolve day-of issues and ensure the client's experience meets Roam standards from load-in through breakdown.
• Ensure the event manager coordinates event setup, breakdown, and room flips with housekeeping, maintenance, and outside vendors (rentals, florals, entertainment, photography, transportation).
• Ensure event manager allocates event inventory and assets — linens, china, glassware, flatware, tables, chairs, tenting, AV, and décor — including par levels, condition, storage, and replacement planning.
• Ensure event contracts, deposits, guarantees, and final billing are accurate and processed on schedule in partnership with Roam's back-office team.
• Ensure guest-room blocks tied to events are coordinated with the front desk and housekeeping so arrival and departure days run smoothly.
• Manage the intersection of events and transient hotel guests so weddings and banquets never degrade the in-house guest experience.
• Support Roam's Revenue and Marketing teams in growing event volume: local relationship building, lead follow-up, and feedback on packages and pricing.

• Hire, schedule, train, and supervise front desk staff; set coverage hours based on occupancy, arrival patterns, and event volume.
• Ensure check-in, check-out, payment handling, and in-person guest requests are executed consistently and to Roam standards.
• Ensure front desk staff are trained on the PMS, POS, smart locks, and Roam's guest-communication tools, and that all guest issues are documented and handed off cleanly to the remote Guest Care team.
• Maintain a clean, welcoming, guest-ready lobby, front desk, and common areas at all times.
• Own on-site guest recovery: address complaints in person, resolve issues at the property level, and escalate to Roam leadership when appropriate.
• Monitor guest reviews and on-property feedback; drive corrective action on recurring themes.

• Schedule, coordinate, and manage the housekeeping team — including leads and room attendants — to cover the full turnover board, event spaces, and public areas, including coverage for days off.
• Conduct quality-assurance inspections on completed rooms and suites; identify and correct issues before guest arrival.
• Conduct pre-arrival checks to confirm rooms are clean, stocked, and guest-ready.
• Follow and enforce all housekeeping SOPs; ensure the team executes them consistently and to standard.
• Recruit, interview, and hire housekeepers as needed to maintain full staffing and coverage through peak season.
• Note: this role does not perform turnovers, cleaning, laundry, or folding — those are executed by the housekeeping team under your supervision.

• Oversee daily upkeep across the property, including guest buildings, dining and event spaces, grounds, seasonal pool and deck, and seasonal tasks (snow, ice, landscaping, tent readiness).
• Own a routine preventive maintenance program; ensure maintenance team completes and logs proactive inspections and reports issues promptly.
• Train front desk to handle or direct basic maintenance — light bulbs, batteries, air filters, and similar minor repairs.
• Escalate larger repairs and capital needs to the Roam Operations team; source (at least 3) bids and coordinate vendor work through to completion.
• Support care of a historic property: track building systems, flag deferred maintenance early, and help build the annual capital and seasonal project plan.

• Manage par levels and inventory for guest-room, housekeeping, common-area, lobby, front-desk, event, and maintenance supplies.
• Place and track reorders before stock runs low; receive, verify, and organize deliveries.
• Control supply spend against budget and report variances to the Roam Operations team.

• Schedule, meet, and coordinate all in-market vendors (housekeeping partners, handymen, landscaping, snow removal, food and beverage distributors, event vendors, and trades) and verify quality of work.
• Maintain vendor records, insurance certificates, and service agreements in partnership with Roam Operations.
• Serve as the on-site lead for emergency management protocols — weather events, utility failures, fire and life-safety, and guest incidents — and coordinate the appropriate on-site response.
• Respond to after-hours property and guest needs when contacted, coordinating with the remote Guest Care team.

• Own the property's day-to-day financial performance against budget across rooms, food and beverage, and events.
• Manage labor scheduling to target, approve and submit payroll, and control cost of goods and supply spend.
• Review daily, weekly, and monthly reporting with the Director of Operations; explain variances and propose corrective action.
• Ensure accurate cash handling/drops, deposits, invoice coding, and vendor payment documentation.
• Contribute to annual budgeting, seasonal forecasting, and capital planning for the property.

• Follow all Roam Hospitality SOPs, processes, and brand standards across every function of the role.
• Ensure the property meets applicable federal, state of Maine, and local requirements — including labor, health, food-safety, liquor-licensing, and life-safety regulations.
• Support consistent, repeatable operations as Roam scales, and help document on-site processes, exceptions, and property-specific SOPs.

Qualifications, Physical Requirements & Schedule & Availability

• Minimum 2–3 years of progressive hospitality leadership experience; prior General Manager, Assistant General Manager, or multi-department manager experience at a hotel, inn, resort, or boutique property strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience managing food and beverage operations, including hiring, scheduling, inventory, and cost control.
• Experience overseeing weddings, banquets, or group events, including BEOs, vendor coordination, and day-of execution.
• Proven ability to hire, train, schedule, and lead a multi-department team.
• Working knowledge of P&L fundamentals: labor cost, cost of goods, and budget accountability.
• Comfortable with property technology (PMS, POS, smart locks, scheduling and messaging tools); quick to learn new platforms.
• Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills; calm and decisive under pressure.
• Dependable, guest-focused, and able to work independently with remote support.
• Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation required.
• Must pass a background check.
• Food-safety (ServSafe or equivalent) required, or ability to obtain within a defined period of hire.

This role is physically active. It requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching for extended periods while inspecting rooms, dining outlets, event spaces, and grounds; lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs (supplies, event equipment, and small items); moving between buildings and outdoor spaces in all Maine weather conditions; and using basic tools and equipment for minor maintenance. This is a full-time, on-site, exempt role. Specific days and hours are flexible and set based on property needs, occupancy, seasonality, and the event calendar. Evening, weekend, and holiday availability is required, particularly during peak season and on high volume event days. The General Manager is expected to be reachable for after-hours property emergencies and to ensure department leads and staff provide coverage on the Manager's days off.

Benefits

Compensation: $85,000 annual base salary, exempt. This position is also eligible to participate in Roam Hospitality’s performance-based bonus incentive program. Compensation does not include tips or gratuities.
