(Must be located in Michigan or moving to West Michigan) Employment Type: Full-TimeAbout the OpportunityOur client is a growing distribution company seeking an experienced Procurement Buyer to join their team. This position will have a strong focus on commodity purchasing (approximately 75%), with the remaining 25% focused on distribution-related purchasing and inventory needs.This is an excellent opportunity for a Buyer who enjoys working with major vendors, negotiating pricing, analyzing purchasing opportunities, and playing an important role in the company's overall procurement strategy.The Procurement Buyer will work as part of a team of Buyers and will have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility and develop into a leadership role over time.Key ResponsibilitiesManage purchasing activities for assigned commodities and product categoriesDevelop and maintain strong relationships with major vendors and suppliersNegotiate pricing, terms, freight, lead times, and other purchasing agreementsSupport pricing strategies and help identify opportunities to improve marginsAnalyze vendor pricing, purchasing trends, and market conditionsSource products and evaluate new vendor opportunitiesManage purchase orders and monitor vendor performanceEnsure product availability while balancing inventory levels and purchasing costsPartner with internal teams to understand purchasing needs and market demandWork closely with other Buyers to coordinate purchasing activitiesAssist with inventory planning, replenishment, and forecastingIdentify opportunities for cost savings and process improvementsResolve vendor issues involving pricing, delivery, quality, and product availabilityMaintain accurate purchasing records and information within the company's systemsParticipate in strategic purchasing initiatives and special projectsTake on additional leadership responsibilities as the organization continues to growQualifications5+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, commodity buying, or strategic sourcingExperience in distribution, wholesale, manufacturing, or a similar environmentStrong vendor-management and negotiation skillsExperience managing commodities and/or product categoriesStrong understanding of pricing, margins, inventory, and purchasingAbility to analyze purchasing data and make sound business decisionsStrong communication and relationship-building skillsProficiency with Microsoft Office and ExcelBachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Purchasing, or a related field preferredIdeal BackgroundThe ideal candidate may come from a variety of purchasing environments, including:DistributionWholesaleManufacturingIndustrial productsConsumer productsRetail supplyCommodity purchasingStrategic sourcingCandidates do not need to have the exact title of "Commodity Buyer."
