Ryerson offers a dynamic, quality-focused, environment, ideal for advancing your career and making your mark in the metals industry.As a General Helper you are responsible for keeping work area safe and productive.Roles and ResponsibilitiesFill in for absent positions as qualified, excluding maintenance, as needed dailyAssemble material for shipment or machines in accordance with specifications and instructions on ordersSelect material from specific heats or for physical condition in accordance with instructions on ordersCount, weigh, record heat or test numbers or symbols, list random lengths and other necessary information on orders as requiredUnload and receive material, weights, counts, check sizes. Identify by color and heat or test numbers. Place into stock rack or designated areas. Record necessary information on receiving tickets or other documentsPerform tallying, stamping, sorting and re-oiling as requiredMaintain safety, quality and productivity standards of each job assignmentAll other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without noticeRequirementsSome experience working in a warehouse environmentSuccessfully pass a skills-based assessment - evaluates your reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skillsCertified forklift and crane experience preferred (sheet lifter, chains, slings, hoists, or hooks)Experience with hand tools for banding and packaging materialSAP experience preferredUnderstand work order packaging specificationsSuccessful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding.Salary: This position is a Union position. Per Union contract this position pays $29.64.
