Patient Accounting Advocate Specialist - Patient Accounting -18

Job Summary Full Time – 40 hours per week, AM Shift. Serves as St. Rose Hospital point of contact for collection of onsite payments prior to hospital services and for existing patient account balances. Assists patients with inquiries about Uninsured/Charity and MediCal eligibility, explaining required documentation and referring to resources when applicable. Answers questions on current account balances. Promotes a positive hospital image by adhering to SRH Core Values of Service–Partnership–Community–Compassion–Excellence. Responsibilities Calculates and generates patient estimate using benefits, charges and contract information; enters required documentation into the hospital computer system. Explains patient liability estimate to patient and family. Accepts upfront and current payments from patients and guarantors; logs payment, produces receipt and prepares deposit records within SRH cash handling policy and procedure. Explains payment plan options, enrolls patients in payment plans as appropriate; provides timely follow-up for charity and other payment approval processes and assists patient in understanding required documents for application. Partners with MediCal Vendor to assist patient with related questions. Follows HIPAA guidelines at all times, maintaining patient confidentiality. Demonstrates appropriate problem solving and interpersonal skills. Completes projects assigned by Patient Account Leadership. Maintains acceptable Quality Assurance score of >90% weekly. Ensures charity application work queue is reviewed every 30 days and appropriate next steps are taken. Qualifications Education: High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Experience: 5+ years in Medi-Cal & Managed Medi-Cal billing; claim appeals (CIFs); acute care facility and sub-acute billing preferred. Skills: Excellent customer service; attention to detail; proficient typing (minimum 45 wpm); knowledge of medical terminology; Spanish preferred. Minimum 1 year experience.
