Utility Worker
Under general supervision of the Dining Executive Chef, Manager or Supervisor the Utility Worker performs a variety of duties involving dishwashing, food delivery and the cleaning & sanitation of all kitchen areas. The Utility Worker will possess a genuine interest in and concern for the food service industry and for geriatric, chronically ill and/or disabled persons. Must be able to fluently communicate in or to take or give direction or guidance in the English language.
A working knowledge of the practices and procedures in dishwashing and proper sanitation techniques. A professional appearance is to be maintained at all times.
Essential Functions:
- Regular attendance is considered an essential function of this position and is necessary for the efficient operation of the business.
- Proper operation of a dishwashing machine and three-compartment sink to clean and sanitize all small wares.
- Maintains HACCP records on a daily basis, monitoring temperatures of dish machines & ware washing sinks including the proper concentration of chemical usage and techniques.
- Proper storage of all small wares after they have been cleaned and sanitized.
- Transportation of food and supplies from the main kitchen to other production and service kitchens. Also assists in the delivery of meals, as required.
- Cleans and sanitizes work area and equipment as assigned, including deep cleaning duties.
- Proper daily cleaning (sweeping & moping) of production areas, storage rooms, dish room and walk-in floors.
- Assists with the inspections of deliveries ensuring proper items and quantities are delivered and that temperatures are recorded while adhering to safe food handling practices.
- Keeps the supervisor informed regarding levels of supplies and to any problems arising from food service preparation procedures and staff.
- Assists with various duties relating to special activities and functions.
- Ensures that the production area has been secured at the end of the shift. All equipment and lights are turned off and all doors and gates are locked.
- Practices a safety first attitude reporting any unsafe behavior or working condition.
- Attends departmental staff meetings, in-services and other related meetings as required.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
