Job Description

The University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR), the nation's highest-power university research reactor and a national leader in medical isotope production, nuclear research, and radiochemistry, invites applications for a Workforce Development Program Director.

This is an exciting opportunity to build and lead innovative workforce development programs that prepare the next generation of professionals for careers in nuclear science, radiochemistry, isotope production, radiopharmaceutical manufacturing, health physics, and nuclear engineering. The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in expanding MURR's educational mission while strengthening partnerships with academia, industry, government agencies, and national laboratories.

The Workforce Development Coordinator reports to the Associate Director for Research and Education and will provide strategic leadership for workforce development initiatives that support MURR's expanding national mission.
Primary Responsibilities
• Lead and coordinate the MURR Nuclear Scholars Summer Academy, including student recruitment, mentor coordination, educational programming, and program assessment.
• Serve as MURR's liaison with the College of Engineering, College of Health Sciences, and other academic units to develop interdisciplinary educational partnerships and workforce initiatives.
• Organize and lead educational tours of MURR for students, educators, government officials, industry representatives, and community organizations.
• Develop and direct an industry-focused Nuclear Workforce Development Bootcamp providing foundational education in nuclear science, radiation safety, radiochemistry, isotope production, and radiochemical manufacturing.
• Collaborate with faculty, industry partners, national laboratories, and government agencies to develop innovative workforce education programs.
• Lead and contribute to proposals for federal, state, foundation, and industry funding that support workforce development initiatives.
• Develop new educational programs, certificates, and professional training opportunities aligned with national workforce needs.
• Represent MURR at conferences, professional meetings, recruiting events, and outreach activities.
• Build strategic partnerships that expand MURR's role as a national center for nuclear workforce development.

Shift

Monday - Friday, 8AM - 5PM. Some evening and weekend work as needed for workforce development and engagement events.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree or higher in a related discipline.
• Experience in nuclear science, isotope production, radiochemistry, radiopharmaceutical manufacturing, research reactors, or related scientific fields.
• Experience developing and managing workforce development or educational programs.
• Demonstrated success in securing external funding through grants and contracts.
• Experience working with federal agencies, national laboratories, universities, or private industry.
• Familiarity with the U.S. nuclear enterprise and workforce development priorities.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year

Grade: GGS 012
