Billing Team Lead

Job Overview:
Search Solution Group is seeking a Billing Team Lead on behalf of our client, a management consulting firm. This role serves as a critical bridge between Finance and Operations, leading a team responsible for managing the full lifecycle of project financials. The ideal candidate brings strong project accounting experience, leadership capabilities, and a deep understanding of billing accuracy, revenue recognition, and financial compliance.


Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and support a team of billing agents to ensure high performance and accuracy
• Oversee project accounting activities, including time and material tracking and revenue recognition
• Manage Work in Progress analysis, revenue cut-off procedures, and revenue deferrals and accruals
• Review and analyze project data to identify discrepancies in billable time and expenses
• Serve as the escalation point for billing agents and project managers on complex billing and contract inquiries
• Oversee full cycle accounts receivable, including cash application and aging AR management
• Ensure accurate matching of cash receipts to invoices and timely resolution of outstanding balances
• Act as the subject matter expert for ERP systems, including Sage Intacct or similar platforms
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance billing workflows and internal controls
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, and Project Management teams

Requirements include:

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred

Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in project-based billing or project cost accounting
• Experience in a professional services or consulting environment preferred
• Prior leadership or team management experience preferred

Skills:

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Advanced data analysis and reconciliation skills
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders
• Proficiency in ERP systems, with experience in Sage Intacct preferred
• Strong organizational and time management skills

Certifications:

• Relevant accounting or finance certifications are a plus

Knowledge:

• Solid understanding of GAAP, including revenue recognition, accruals, and project financial lifecycles
• Knowledge of accounts receivable processes and billing operations
• Familiarity with ERP systems and financial data management
