ACCOUNTANT II

Primary Purpose
Under limited supervision, this position performs professional accounting work requiring knowledge of the theory and practice of recording, classifying, examining, and analyzing the data and records of financial transactions. The position involves maintenance of the general ledger, preparing journal entries, cash and investments, approving payables, month-end closing routine and preparing various reports and schedules in the MUNIS financial system. Reports to the Finance Director.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Considerable knowledge of accounting methods, procedures, and accounting practice
• Possess excellent in-person/in-office interpersonal skills with the capacity to maintain positive, productive relationships with a dynamic group of peers, colleagues, and customers
• Intermediate knowledge of governmental accounting methods, procedures, and financial practices
• General knowledge of a variety of technology, financial systems, and software packages used to create and maintain data
• Maintains adequate accounting records to document compliance with local, state and federal laws and ordinances
• Ability to identify problems, determine possible solutions, and actively work to resolve issues
• Ability to develop complex accounting worksheets and reports
• Ability to present results of analysis to program administrators and negotiate changes and/or implementations
• Ability to assess the accuracy, validity, and integrity of data
• Ability to firmly adhere to codes of conduct and ethical principles
• Assists in the maintenance, control, and analysis of the fiscal operations of County government

Minimum Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business administration and
• Two years of governmental accounting experience preferred
• Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Salary Range: $59,398 - $74,180
