School Bus MechanicThe School Bus Mechanic provides daily repair and maintenance service on a variety of school buses, automobiles, and heavy-duty equipment to assure their safe, effective, and efficient operation in a timely manner.Minimum Required QualificationsAll positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:High school diploma or equivalentValid Driver's License and evidence of insurabilityMust be 21 years of age or olderTwo years' experience diagnosing, repairing and performing preventative maintenance of heavy equipment, diesel motors, and other motor vehiclesHave or obtain a CDL License with School Bus Endorsement within 90 days of hireHave or obtain Utah state safety inspection license within 12 months of hireMust successfully pass and maintain the ability to complete the USBE Physical Assessment Standards for Utah School Bus DriversAble to roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, stand for extended periods of time, and lift up to 50 poundsSpeak, read, write, analyze, and follow written and verbal communication in English; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing; present information in front of groups of peoplePreferred QualificationsThese are examples of skills and experience that the best-qualified candidates may have. Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.Two years' experience diagnosing, repairing and performing preventative maintenance of school busesASE Certification (Master School Bus Mechanic)Any certification/s from engine and or body manufacturersCertifications in any alternative fuel vehicles (including electric)Degree in the automotive fieldEssential Functions & ResponsibilitiesPerforms the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of school busses and all district vehiclesFollows prescribed preventative maintenance procedures and performs preventative maintenance on all vehiclesPerforms services and repairs on school buses, including but not limited to, diesel engines, injectors, pumps, automatic and standard transmission repair and replacement, wheelchair lifts, air brake systems and electrical systemsResponds to emergency road calls during and after regularly scheduled work hours as neededDrives equipment in and out of repair shop; operates and road tests repaired vehicles to ensure proper functionTalks to equipment operators, drives, and operates vehicles, or uses diagnostic equipment to identify problems and malfunctionsPerforms diagnostic inspections on automotive and other motorized or stationary equipment to identify problems, using mechanical, electrical, and electronic testing equipmentUses most major medium duty electronic diagnostic tools (Cummins Insite, Allison DOC)Promotes high standards of safety and housekeeping methods in work-connected areasMaintains vehicle repair records including the nature of the repair, labor hours, and parts used in making repairsPerforms functions of a school bus driver substitute when needed for the purpose of meeting the district's transportation service needs, and maintains positive working relationships with school district employees and studentsParticipates in continuing educational training for new techniques and job skills as requestedParticipate in meetings, workshops, training and seminars, as assigned to convey and gather information required to perform functionsMaintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectivelySupport a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position.
