Ultrasound Technician

Distinguishing characteristics of work Ultrasound Technicians are directly involved in patient care, helping physicians diagnose and detect diseases and other medical concerns. They use ultrasound equipment to visualize internal anatomy, calibrate and manipulate the equipment, capture images or video of potential abnormalities, and discreetly notify medical personnel of any concerning findings. Duties Use sonographic equipment to identify and observe areas of concern. Prepare the exam room for examinations and ultrasound procedures. Report any abnormalities that require immediate attention to the appropriate medical staff. Maintain sonography equipment and report machinery failures. Conduct scan tests and write reports based on the results. Use problem‑solving skills to make decisions during examinations. Manage several patients simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment. Work under minimal supervision and cooperate with team members. Display a good work ethic and a friendly, cheerful disposition. Pursue professional development to continually improve patient care. Work with the calibration company for annual inspections. Communicate with referring primary‑care physicians to discuss cases. Keep clear records through EMR, PACS, and Clearinghouse. Perform other assigned duties as needed. Desired Skills and Knowledge Knowledge of sonogram standards, requirements, and regulations. Knowledge of equipment safety, cleanliness, and infection control policies. Knowledge of ultrasound equipment use and maintenance. Ability to operate sonographic equipment effectively. Ability to evaluate sonograms for appropriate diagnostic information. Ability to integrate diagnostic sonograms, lab results, patient history, and medical records. Independent judgment to acquire optimum diagnostic information. Effective communication of diagnostic information to attending physicians. Clear communication with patients and healthcare team members. Maintenance of patient, team member, and employer confidentiality; compliance with HIPAA. Ability to use a computer and electronic medical record. Attention to detail and ability to adapt to changing conditions. Ability to handle tasks under stressful situations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Minimum Training and Experience High School Diploma or GED. Associate degree or higher preferred. At least 1 year of ultrasound experience preferred. Preferred certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Proficient computer skills. Proficiency in both English and Spanish. Physical Demands Frequent standing, walking, grasping, carrying, reaching, bending, stooping, speaking.
