Job Description

This role supports safe and efficient operations at an oil and gas disposal facility, working 12-hour rotating day and night shifts. You help operate and maintain disposal wells, mud plant systems, and wash bay facilities while ensuring full compliance with environmental, safety, and underground injection regulations. The position involves hands-on work with pumps, pits, tanks, trucks, and heavy equipment, as well as general labor, tank cleaning, and confined-space activities in a demanding outdoor environment.

Responsibilities

• Assure safe and efficient operation of the disposal well system in accordance with all applicable regulations.
• Maintain the overall upkeep, cleanliness, and appearance of the disposal area, plant grounds, and yard.
• Gauge and record daily information related to oil recovery, water volumes, and injection pressures.
• Monitor water pumps and disposal equipment, including systems handling salt water and other fluids.
• Direct, receive, and track trucks bringing produced water from drilling and fracking operations throughout the shift.
• Open and close valves, unload lines, and manage fluid transfer systems associated with disposal operations.
• Retrieve oil from working pits, silos, and tanks as part of recovery and waste handling processes.
• Generate, complete, and document third-party tickets and regulatory forms in support of disposal activities.
• Ensure disposal tickets and documentation are accurate, complete, and signed by drivers.
• Inspect equipment, pumps, tanks, pits, and work areas regularly to identify and correct safety and environmental issues.
• Perform daily follow-up calls with drivers and pushers to confirm fluid delivery and resolve operational concerns.
• Report unsafe conditions or practices promptly and take corrective action when possible.
• Operate heavy equipment such as loaders and excavators in support of mud plant and disposal operations.
• Monitor pit and silo levels, handle drilling mud and waste streams, and support plant operations as needed.
• Perform routine equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and cleanup activities on pumps, tanks, and associated systems.
• Clean trucks, tanks, and equipment in the wash bay and around the facility.
• Assist operators with fluid handling activities and other operational duties as directed.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 6 months experience in the oil and gas industry.
• Strong organizational and time management skills to manage 12-hour rotating shifts and multiple tasks.
• High attention to detail with a strong focus on safety and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills for documentation, ticketing, and shift handoffs.
• Ability to thrive in a team environment and collaborate effectively with operators, drivers, and other field personnel.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent (no degree required).
• Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions on a 24/7 basis.
• Ability to work 12–14 hour shifts, including both day and night rotations.
• Comfort with physical labor, including lifting, climbing, confined-space work, and extended periods on your feet.
• Basic understanding of oil and gas operations, disposal wells, or related industrial processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in the energy or construction industry is a plus.
• Experience in general labor, construction, or construction-related work is beneficial.
• Experience in oil and gas, landscape work, or yard work is advantageous.
• Familiarity with equipment operation, including loaders, excavators, or similar machinery.
• Ability to perform confined-space work in tanks and wash systems following safety procedures.
• Comfort working with drilling mud, waste streams, and fluid handling systems.
• Strong commitment to housekeeping and maintaining a clean and safe work site.
• Ability to adapt to a rotating schedule and changing operational demands.
• Self-motivation and reliability in a high-activity, production-focused environment.
• Ability to attend orientation and daily work without reliance on provided hotel accommodations.

Work Environment

This role is based at an outdoor oil and gas disposal and mud plant facility operating 24/7. You work primarily outside in all weather conditions, often around pumps, pits, tanks, heavy equipment, and water-hauling trucks. Shifts are typically 12 hours and may extend to 12–14 hours, with rotation between day and night shifts (for example, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., 4 days on and 4 days off). The environment is industrial and fast-paced, with a strong focus on safety, environmental compliance, and housekeeping. Work involves confined-space entry into tanks and wash systems, general yard and facility maintenance, and hands-on operation of equipment. Dress code requires steel-toe boots, jeans, and a work shirt suitable for rugged field conditions, supported by uniform allowances. Hotel accommodations are not provided for orientation or day-to-day work, so you should be prepared to commute or arrange your own lodging as needed.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wheeling, WV.

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
