Nurse ManagerThe Nurse Manager, under the direction of the Director of Surgery Services, assists with the development, maintenance, and evaluation of an environment that supports the practice of nursing and the delivery of high-quality patient care on a twenty-four hour basis for GI Services. The Nurse Manager is responsible for monitoring staff and the quality of procedures in their area of supervision. The Nurse Manager supports success in patient care, financial management, human resources management, leadership, quality, and operational management objectives. The Nurse Manager participates in program development and unit performance improvement. The Nurse Manager may fulfill the role of the Charge Nurse or provide direct patient care or education as needed. The Nurse Manager consistently demonstrates core values and serves as a role model to other employees. The Nurse Manager participates in the development and management of department budgets and productivity targets. They manage human resources utilization, promote employee satisfaction, support staff development, and utilize the progressive discipline process when appropriate. The Nurse Manager leads employees, supports organizational goals and decisions, implements necessary changes, and participates in strategic planning for service needs and resource utilization. They maintain and promote quality service and best practices. The Nurse Manager participates in quality improvement processes and assures implementation of regulatory standards. They ensure services are provided considering the age-specific physiological, emotional, and cognitive needs of the patients served. The Nurse Manager continually evaluates departmental functions and the delivery of patient services. They keep leadership informed regarding the level of care and service being provided and the level of patient, employee, and physician satisfaction. The Nurse Manager acts as a liaison between the patient/family, physician, and patient care team as necessary to solve problems. In conjunction with the Director, they translate knowledge of professional and regulatory standards to policies, practices, and procedures, maintaining current changes. They research interdepartmental problems and issues, taking corrective action in a timely manner while promoting respectful, responsive communication between departments to enhance patient-centered care. The Nurse Manager supervises staff in service areas. They guide staff in adhering to applicable standards of care and/or departmental expectations. The Nurse Manager acts as a resource to other departments for education and information in their area of expertise. They perform nursing assessments according to professional nursing practice. The Nurse Manager plans patient care using a multidisciplinary approach and individualized patient care plans. They implement planned interventions in a safe and technically competent manner. The Nurse Manager evaluates outcomes through monitoring of patients and makes appropriate changes in care to improve outcomes. They meet teaching needs of patients and families. The Nurse Manager functions within limits specified by the Nurse Practice Act and associated regulations. They document patient care appropriately according to policy.
