Retail Licensed Optician Part Time

Summary Assists customers with frame selection, fits, and dispenses frames. Utilizes technical information to interpret prescriptions and assists customers with the selection of optical products and services. Pay Class and Pay Pay Class: Part Time Pay: $27 - $40.50 per hour Essential Responsibilities Assist each customer in frame and lens selection while meeting social distance requirements. Ensure compliance with social distancing, cleaning protocols, and hygiene practices: frequent handwashing, no shaking hands, covering nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, avoiding touching eyes/nose/mouth with unwashed hands. Provide customers with accurate product information regarding frames, lens selections, and other services. Provide customers covered by third‑party insurance with accurate information regarding benefits to ensure proper selection of frames and lenses; inform the customer of any additional charges not covered. Utilize the SERVE sales process to identify customer needs and establish proper lens recommendations based on patient needs; use all available demonstration tools. Analyze and interpret patients’ prescriptions; communicate as necessary with the lab and optometrist to ensure accuracy. Sell, fit, and dispense frames and accessories using accurate measurements, verification of ordered products, and adjustments of optical products in accordance with the Eyewear Presentation. Maintain a clean and orderly dispensing area. Ensure accuracy of customer pricing for retail customers. Maintain license requirements per state guidelines. Provide feedback and guidance to apprentice opticians where applicable. Adhere to privacy, confidentiality, and proprietary company policies (e.g., HIPAA). Participate in all training and educational activities necessary to meet minimum requirements and professional affiliations. Diligently maintain cleanliness of all equipment, workstations, and the overall facility daily. Complete additional responsibilities as assigned due to changing business needs. Education High School Diploma or Equivalent Experience & Background Must hold and maintain applicable state licensure for ophthalmic dispensing. Knowledge and demonstrated ability to explain optical products, services, analysis and interpretation of optical prescriptions, fitting, and dispensing. Language Skills Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Write simple correspondence. Effectively present information in one‑to‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and associates. Mathematical Skills Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages. Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Specific terms are set forth in the company’s collective bargaining agreement with a minimum pay rate of $27 per hour plus incentive. Starting pay may vary based on experience up to a maximum of $40.50 per hour. Incentive pay, wage upgrades, and overtime opportunities are also available.
