We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer – Electrical Design Review & Code Compliance Advisor, PE to support a confidential major transportation and public-facility assignment involving electrical construction document review, building code compliance, technical standards review, design audit coordination, project processing, and multi-discipline technical review.
Position Overview
CMCOM is seeking a highly qualified Electrical Engineer, PE, to support a major transportation and public-facility assignment in Jersey City, New Jersey. This role is designed for an experienced electrical engineering professional with strong expertise in construction document review, building electrical systems, public facility coordination, electrical code compliance, medium-voltage systems, fire alarm systems, cathodic protection, radio frequency systems, and technical standards compliance. The selected professionals will review electrical drawings, load calculations, service calculations, specifications, reports, and technical submissions for completeness, coordination, constructability, and compliance with applicable building codes, electrical codes, owner standards, and public-agency facility requirements. This position is especially well-suited for a licensed Professional Engineer with experience supporting complex transportation-related facilities, including airports, transit facilities, rail facilities, terminals, public buildings, seaport/marine facilities, infrastructure assets, and active operational environments.
Description of Services
The Electrical Engineer, Electrical Design Review & Code Compliance Advisor, PE, will support electrical document review and project processing services for tenant, facility, and infrastructure-related projects at major transportation and public agency facilities. Services shall include, but are not limited to: · Reviewing electrical design documents for tenant, facility, and infrastructure-related projects · Reviewing medium-voltage electrical systems above 600 volts · Reviewing electrical load calculations, service calculations, specifications, drawings, reports, and technical submissions · Evaluating electrical documents for code compliance, completeness, coordination, constructability, and owner-standard compliance · Supporting reviews involving fire alarm systems, cathodic protection systems, radio frequency systems, electrical distribution, grounding, service equipment, emergency power, and related building electrical infrastructure · Downloading, previewing, and reviewing electronic project submissions and construction documents · Supporting design audit and technical review activities · Coordinating technical review comments from multiple disciplines · Preparing written memoranda, comment packages, technical correspondence, and review summaries · Assigning or coordinating discipline reviews for code and standards compliance · Communicating with facility representatives, tenants, reviewers, consultants, and project stakeholders · Attending meetings with tenant Architects and Engineers of Record to discuss review comments and support issue resolution · Supporting workflow tracking, document control, submission review status, comment resolution, and project processing activities · Helping ensure that submitted documents comply with applicable building codes, electrical codes, owner standards, and transportation-facility requirements
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must demonstrate the minimum required education, technical qualifications, and experience outlined below: · Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering · Minimum of five years of diverse experience in building electrical codes and electrical systems · Experience with medium-voltage systems over 600 volts · Experience with fire alarm systems, cathodic protection, and radio frequency systems · Strong understanding of electrical disciplines related to building design and construction of transportation and related facilities · Experience reviewing electrical drawings, calculations, specifications, reports, and construction documents · Understanding of transportation facilities, public buildings, infrastructure facilities, or complex operational environments · Strong written and verbal communication skills · Ability to act as liaison between tenants, facility representatives, design professionals, technical reviewers, and project stakeholders · Comfortable coordinating with internal reviewers and external project stakeholders to support a smooth workflow · Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite · Ability and interest to learn project/document management systems such as SharePoint, Trimble, Adobe Reader, eBuilder, or similar platforms · Ability to work in a hybrid environment and support coordination with facilities in the New York/New Jersey region · A Professional Engineer license in New York and/or New Jersey is required
Preferred Qualifications
CMCOM strongly encourages candidates with the following qualifications to apply: · Professional Engineer license in both New York and New Jersey · 10+ years of electrical engineering, code compliance, design review, public-agency facility, or infrastructure experience · Prior experience supporting major transportation, aviation, transit, port, seaport, terminal, or public facility programs · Experience reviewing tenant alteration submissions, permit packages, design audit submissions, owner-controlled construction submissions, or agency review packages · Experience with electrical systems in active operational environments, including airports, ports, rail/transit stations, terminals, maintenance facilities, bridges, tunnels, and transportation buildings · Familiarity with building codes, electrical codes, life safety, fire alarm, emergency power, medium-voltage distribution, grounding, cathodic protection, radio frequency systems, and multi-discipline coordination · Strong ability to identify code, constructability, coordination, completeness, documentation, and compliance issues in electrical construction documents · Experience preparing written technical comments, formal review memoranda, and stakeholder correspondence · Experience using SharePoint, Trimble, Adobe Reader, eBuilder, or similar project/document control platforms
Specialized Transportation and Public Facility Experience
Given the specialized nature of this assignment, candidates with prior experience supporting major transportation and public-agency infrastructure programs are strongly encouraged to apply. Highly relevant experience includes: · Aviation, terminal, airside, landside, and support facility projects · Seaport and marine terminal facilities · Rail, subway, bus, transit, and transportation facility projects · Transportation-related buildings, terminals, maintenance facilities, and public infrastructure assets · Medium-voltage electrical distribution systems · Fire alarm, emergency power, grounding, radio frequency, and cathodic protection systems · Electrical systems serving active operational facilities · Public-agency document control, code compliance, quality assurance, and technical review procedures · Field coordination in operational environments where safety, continuity of operations, and stakeholder communication are critical
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a licensed Electrical Engineer who can review complex electrical construction documents and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This individual should bring a disciplined, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused approach to electrical document review, code compliance, project processing, design audit support, and technical coordination. The successful candidate will be comfortable working across disciplines, resolving review comments, supporting owner standards, and maintaining a professional workflow in a high-accountability public-agency environment.
