Powered by Care.Classification: Non-ExemptPay Rate: $25.00 - $30.00 per hourEssential Functions:Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Roles and Responsibilities:Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positionsWorks with specialized equipment including welding and other necessary toolsWorks safely around backhoes, excavators, trenchers and dump trucksCleans and prepares construction sites to eliminate possible hazardsLays out, positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulersExamines workpieces for defects and measures work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specificationsClamps, holds, tack-welds, heat-bends, grinds or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for weldingSelects and installs torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metalsDetermines required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniquesMonitors the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materialAnalyzes engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operationsMarks or tags material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as requiredPrepares all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matterPreheats work pieces using torches to then guide and directs flames or electrodes on or across work pieces to connect pipeDetects faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notifies supervisorsCleans or degreases parts, using wire brushes, and portable grindersSets up and uses ladders and shoring as necessary to complete workUses fire suppression methods in industrial emergenciesCleans, checks fluid levels and conducts a visual inspection of vehicle/equipment to assure vehicle/equipment is performing at optimum safety, performs the required pre-trip, post trip inspections and the required paperwork, perform needed maintenance including winterizing equipmentUtilizes defensive driving practicesOperates truck in a manner that ensures compliance with all applicable company, state and federal safety regulationsFollows required company and DOT reporting proceduresMaintains paperwork during the day including DVIR and driver's log bookEnsures the truck has current licenses, tags, permits, and proof of insuranceSuccess Factors:Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shiftAbility to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneelingAbility to understand and follow specific oral and written instructionsAbility to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workersAbility to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policyEnglish usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reportsWillingness and ability to learn additional skillsExperience and Education:Five (5+) plus years experience as a welder is requiredThree (3+) plus years experience in the gas or oil industry is requiredAdditional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:Possession of welding rig to include welding machine, necessary cutting equipment, and toolsCandidates must pass client specific weld tests to include API-1104 and ASME B31Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver's License is required within two weeks of employment.Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.Notes:The statements herein are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified.
