Maintenance Technician

JOB SUMMARY Follows and promotes safety within the organization. Assists with the utility privatization contract at Tyndall Air Force Base where needed. Under limited supervision, performs work of routine facility maintenance. In an emergency, employee may be called in to work at any time. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education High school diploma or equivalent. Related Experience 5 years of building maintenance experience. Other Must be able to complete a drug screen. Must have the ability to maintain a security clearance to enter government facilities (Tyndall AFB). Licenses/Certifications/Required Training Florida Drivers License REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Two-way communication with immediate supervisor on work-related plans. Receive direction and guidance as needed for performance improvement. FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB Services Perform routine maintenance on building interior and exterior. Including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry/ drywall, generators, etc. Contacts and schedules vendors and contractors for necessary building repairs and emergencies that are outside the scope of routine maintenance. Maintains schedule and records of when maintenance has been performed and when next service is due. Works in a safe manner and recognizes unsafe situations. Takes appropriate action to ensure safety of themselves and others in the building. Assist with office moves, assembling new furniture, and reconfiguring offices or meeting spaces. Other Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to organize tasks and work independently to include good reasoning and troubleshooting skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, employees, and officials in other departments. Ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions and orientation to the job. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to request clarification when needed. Knowledge and ability to properly use hand tools, power tools, and other equipment essential to the job function. TOOLS/TECHNOLOGY USED TOOLS Power Tools Chainsaw, buzzsaw, jackhammer, nail guns, screw guns, impact wrench, drill Basic Hand tools Allen wrench, hammer, screwdriver, wrench, pliers, levels, ratchet Ladder 10-foot, 15-25-foot Shovel Physical Requirements Incumbent must be able to: Perform work exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable Know when it is appropriate to use standard safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hard hats or life jackets and specialized safety equipment such as breathing apparatus, safety harness, mask, etc. Stand for long periods of time. Maintain composure while being exposed to the elements (change in weather condition, temperature fluctuations, etc.). Perform activities such as kneeling, crouching, stooping or crawling. Work in potentially awkward precarious positions and confined spaces with limited oxygen. Maintain composure and be able to effectively perform work in steep situations. Climb ladders, roofs/scaffolds or poles that are more than 10ft. high. Readily lift over 50 lbs.; know how to safely lift heavier objects. Reach over the shoulder and bend below the shoulder level. Perform other heavy physical labor as assigned.
