Safety ManagerManages and coordinates all aspects of company safety programs, ensuring that safety programs are correctly administered and communicated, and that federal, state and local laws are met. Ensures that project sites and offices provide a safe working environment for employees, customers, and vendors.Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties:Implements and manages safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulationsManages the administration of project safety, accident, and hazard communication programs to maintain safe work environmentsCorrects unsafe employee activities, procedures, and practicesInspects work locations to detect existing or potential accident and health hazardsEvaluates contractors' safety programs and policies; recommends changes and manages implementation of changesConducts investigations of accidents and injuries through employee interviews, equipment inspections and site inspections, carefully reviewing the integrity of personal protective equipment, materials, and job-site specific gearProvides regular worksite safety training for all employees; provides training for hourly labor, foremen, supervisors and local managers in work site safety practices, fire prevention and correct handling techniques for toxins, equipment, and other materialsManages administration of contractor safety trainingManages the company's Workers' Compensation program; works closely with the company's insurance carrier to implement programs to reduce employee lost timeEnsures that all required records and reports are complete, accurate and correctly submitted to comply with all internal processes and comply with all local, state, and federal regulationsPrepares materials and evidence for company use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigationsHires, trains, and manages staffProvides informational signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditionsMaintains safety files and recordsPrepares and arranges safety exhibits and material for display at industry conferences and exhibitions.Required Skills and Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety or a related science fieldA minimum of 2 years of experience in safety positions in the construction industryNYCT Track Safety trainedMinimum of 90 days prior NYCT Right of Way experience with flagging and diversions of service.40-hour NYC-Dept. of Buildings Site Safety Manager Course.30-hour OSHA Construction Safety and Health (29 CFR 1926) Course.Active member of American Society of Safety ProfessionalsPossess and maintain a current NYS DOL Asbestos Inspector LicensePossess and maintain a current C-3/C-5 Supervisor/Competent Person Training for De-leading of Industrial Structures CertificateShall receive a minimum of 6 hours of relevant safety training courses on a yearly basis for the duration of the Contract.Knowledge of and experience with OSHA rules, regulations and reporting processes and proceduresAbility to exercise good business judgment and common sense when making recommendations and decisionsAbility to effectively train and manage staffAbility to multi-task and thrive in an environment where numerous tasks and projects are occurring simultaneouslyAbility to meet deadlines in short time framesStrong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to write effective reportsStrong interpersonal skills: ability to interact and with all levels of the company at field sites and offices, and effectively deal with vendors, customers, and regulatory agenciesProficiency with Microsoft Office suite.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Works indoors, with some onsite/outdoor workFrequently sits, stands, walks, reads, writes, and uses a computer keyboardWhen visiting project sites, stands, and walks and may climb, balance, stoop, or crouch while negotiating work areas under constructionMay be exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weatherMay be exposed to loud noise.Company Overview:This job description is not intended to represent a complete, comprehensive list of all duties and responsibilities that may be required in this position.
