In this role, you'll work directly with commercial, industrial, and municipal clients to develop practical compliance solutions, conduct environmental audits, and manage regulatory programs across hazardous materials, hazardous waste, air quality, stormwater, wastewater, and petroleum storage tank compliance. Position OverviewThe Environmental Compliance Specialist will play a key role in planning, executing, and coordinating environmental compliance activities for a diverse client base. This highly visible position requires a strong understanding of environmental regulations, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The ideal candidate will have 5 to 10 years of environmental consulting experience , a strong technical background, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal project teams.
Travel to client sites may be required.
Key ResponsibilitiesEnvironmental Compliance- Support the Senior Environmental Compliance Manager in project execution and delivery.
- Conduct environmental compliance assessments and audits at commercial and industrial facilities.
- Evaluate compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Research and interpret regulatory requirements and applicability.
- Prepare detailed audit reports with findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
- Monitor regulatory reporting requirements and compliance deadlines.
- Perform facility inspections and compliance evaluations.
- Develop environmental compliance programs, SOPs, and guidance documents.
- Provide regulatory support and compliance recommendations to clients.
- Communicate project schedules, budgets, and technical findings to clients and management.
- Assist with business development efforts by identifying new opportunities and expanding client relationships.
- Support hazardous materials and hazardous waste compliance programs.
- Evaluate waste classification, storage, transportation, disposal, and recordkeeping requirements.
- Conduct hazardous waste compliance audits and inspections.
- Prepare compliance reports and corrective action recommendations.
- Manage hazardous materials inventories and regulatory reporting.
- Support California Environmental Reporting System (CERS) submissions.
- Develop contingency plans and emergency response procedures.
- Provide client training on hazardous materials handling and waste management.
- Support TSCA compliance initiatives.
- Conduct inspections of underground and aboveground storage tank systems.
- Research and interpret storage tank regulations and compliance requirements.
- Track testing, inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs.
- Recommend corrective actions and compliance improvements.
- Conduct air regulatory research and applicability reviews.
- Develop air emissions inventories.
- Support air permit application preparation.
- Prepare and review air quality management plans.
- Evaluate facility compliance and recommend process improvements.
- Manage California Industrial General Permit requirements and deadlines.
- Develop and implement Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs).
- Conduct stormwater inspections, sampling, and reporting.
- Support MS4 permit compliance programs.
- Manage TMDL reporting requirements.
- Implement California Trash Initiative requirements.
- Develop and implement Best Management Practices (BMPs).
- Support construction-related SWPPP and BMP compliance activities.
- Prepare permit basis documents and industrial wastewater discharge permits.
- Conduct pretreatment program audits and gap assessments.
- Develop and revise pretreatment program documentation, ordinances, SOPs, and enforcement procedures.
- Support local limits evaluations.
- Prepare compliance reports, including annual reports, SMRs, and surcharge reports.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 5-10 years of environmental consulting and compliance experience.
- Experience conducting comprehensive environmental compliance audits.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within project teams.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
Experience supporting one or more of the following:
- Hazardous waste and hazardous materials management
- Petroleum storage tank compliance
- Air quality permitting and compliance
- Stormwater management and SWPPP programs
- Industrial wastewater and pretreatment programs
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Orange, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $120000.00/hr.
