Major Gift Officer

TITLE: Major Gift Officer DIVISION: Development LOCATION: Remote, with Washington, DC office available The Joe and Jill Biden Presidential Library Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is seeking a Major Gift Officer to join a dynamic team at an exciting moment as it fundraises to establish the Biden Presidential Center in Delaware. The Joe and Jill Biden Presidential Library Foundation will advance the enduring values of public service, empathy, and integrity that have defined President Biden and Dr. Biden’s lives, and serve as a living institution dedicated to education, public policy, and civic engagement. PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Major Gift Officer (MGO) is responsible for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual prospects with a five to low seven-figure gift capacity. The MGO will be responsible for achieving established fundraising goals while ensuring major donors have a meaningful philanthropic experience. This position will report to the Director of Individual Giving and will work collaboratively across different functions of the Foundation. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage a portfolio size of 100-125 prospective and current donors; continuously help identify and qualify new major gift prospects; create a comprehensive strategy for donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship based on the donor’s giving history and capacity; and conduct face-to-face solicitations and secure new gifts, gift renewals, or gift increases Partner with leadership and key stakeholders on solicitations by providing prospect briefings, strategic guidance, and assistance with donor communications. Develop, plan, and participate in strategic donor engagement opportunities, such as small events for select prospects in the portfolio and larger donor stewardship events Develop a high-quality donor experience through regular personalized correspondence, professional proposals, and timely acknowledgements. Track prospect activity through established Customer Relations Management (CRM) protocols and maintain regular reports that accurately reflect progress toward building relationships and increasing donor support. Independently exercise ethical and sound judgement to maintain the highest standards of donor privacy and confidence. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain active knowledge of the Foundation’s mission, programs, activities, and fundraising priorities. Assist the Development team with special assignments to ensure meaningful donor engagement and support the successful advancement of the Foundation’s fundraising campaign. Work some evenings and weekends as required for events and other deadlines. Stay up to date of philanthropic trends. QUALIFICATIONS: Work Experience Five to seven years of front-line fundraising and development experience required, with non-profit experience preferred. Demonstrated success in donor stewardship and securing five to seven-figure gifts. Strong familiarity with the political donor base preferred but not required. Skills Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational and administrative skills. Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, in a start-up environment while managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines. Ability to manage highly sensitive, confidential information using excellent judgment and discretion at all times. Demonstrated analytical skills related to complex donor research and information. Proficiency with Salesforce database management software or other CRM software preferred. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience, with a range of $85,000 - $110,000. The Foundation provides medical, dental, and vision coverage with 100% of monthly premiums covered by the Foundation for employees, and 80% of monthly premiums for spouses, domestic partners, and dependent children. All employees are eligible for 15 days of paid time off plus paid holiday and 15 days of paid sick leave. The Foundation offers employees a 401(k) retirement plan with a safe harbor matching contribution up to 5% of salary. The Foundation offers Foundation-paid life, short-term disability, and long-term disability insurance to employees. All roles offer flexibility with remote and hybrid work options.
