To learn how to apply for a faculty or staff position, please review this tip sheet.The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has a full time opportunity for an Associate Nurse Manager, Inpatient for the Emergency Department in Miami, Florida.In collaboration and under the direction of the Nurse Manager/Director, the Associate Nurse Manager (ANM) plans, oversees and directs patient care assuring standards of quality, service and safety are met within the philosophy and objectives of the University of Miami Hospitals and Clinics. Acts as the day-to-day ANM and directly supervises the healthcare team to ensure safe and effective clinical operations and/or outcomes. The ANM plays a crucial role in assisting the Nurse Manager with strategic operations of the unit, conducting staff meetings, and all other responsibilities. The incumbent should be knowledgeable of hospital policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, and patient care standards. The ANM must communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and possess basic computer skills. With Nurse Manager oversight, the ANM leads and/or provides input, and can complete performance improvement processes. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and accountability.**CORE JOB FUNCTIONS*** Demonstrates the ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.* Capable of handling difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.* Ability to understand and follow instructions.* Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment when making decisions.* Demonstrates knowledge and clinical skills to oversee daily operations of the nursing unit and personnel.* Provides direct patient care as needed per entity standard. Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.* Assumes 24/7 responsibility, when needed.* Ability to understand, respect, and accommodate patients’ preferences and needs with regards to their individual beliefs, customs and practices.* Must have the ability to clearly, accurately and effectively communicate information to doctors, other nurses, other members of the care team, patients and their family members.* Collaborates with the Nurse Leaders in formulating and implementing short- and long-term goals that align with organizational priorities and consistently monitors and oversee expectations of nursing care and nursing documentation and assures that Standards of Practice are being followed.* Reports issues or concerns appropriately and timely and keeps leader informed of unusual patient or staff occurrences; changes in staffing requirements/patient acuity or complexity; and any possible risk-related incidents.* Assists in developing roles and responsibilities of all direct reports by fostering a culture of talent management & development within area of specialty.* Works with leaders to identify, develop & retain high potential employees by actively engaging them through delegation, stretch assignments, supervision & educational programs.* Encourages nursing staff to advance through the Professional Development program.* Monitors productivity and flexes appropriately and meets or exceeds financial targets.* The ANM works to improve employee engagement through collaboration; holds staff accountable, meets one-on-one with staff, and acknowledges team members for great performance.* Participates in and initiates the corrective action process when necessary and ensures that policies are fairly and consistently followed and enforced.* Demonstrates active support of the hospital Process Improvement (PI) philosophies and aligns departmental goals to support PI initiatives.* Works closely with Direct or Indirect leaders in developing quality improvement/PI processes to assure safe, quality patient outcomes and implements Evidence-Based Best Practices and is actively involved in at least one policy or process improvement committee.* Consistently rounds on patients, monitors bedside handoff, and assures responsiveness of staff to call lights.* Other duties as assigned.**This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.****CORE QUALIFICATIONS** **Education:** Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution ACEN and/or CCNE**Certification and Licensing:** State of Florida Registered Nurse Licensing (RN)BLS, ACLS, PALS**Experience:** Minimum 3 years of relevant experience**Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:** • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others. • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions. • Ability to lead, motivate, develop and train others.The University of Miami offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, tuition remission and more.UHealth-University of Miami Health System, South Florida's only university-based health system, provides leading-edge patient care powered by the ground breaking research and medical education at the Miller School of Medicine.
