Join a dedicated healthcare team in a regional medical facility serving the heart of the Midwest. This full-time, day-shift Medical Assistant role supports clinical staff in delivering compassionate and efficient patient care within a bariatric clinic setting.

General Summary

The Medical Assistant operates under the supervision of licensed nurses, physicians, or advanced practice providers, performing delegated clinical tasks. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, detail-oriented, and able to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining excellent customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control and safe patient handling.
• Provide direct patient interaction such as escorting patients, obtaining vital signs and EKGs, verifying medications and allergies, and documenting medical histories and visit reasons accurately and promptly.
• Manage communication by routing phone messages, answering patient inquiries, and assisting with physician return calls.
• Assist with medication renewals, authorizations, and administration (oral, IM, SQ) as ordered.
• Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Schedule appointments, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures as directed by providers.
• Complete necessary paperwork including prior authorizations and referrals in a timely manner.
• Monitor and maintain supply inventory and ensure exam areas are clean and well-stocked.
• Educate patients and guardians about electronic health record access and benefits.
• Support orientation and training of new medical assistants.
• Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, adaptability, and maintain punctuality and attendance standards.

Education

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program is required, or equivalent experience. A high school diploma is mandatory.

Experience

At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or related medical specialist is preferred. Experience in a clinical setting is advantageous.

Certification and Licenses

• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential from an accredited organization such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT) is preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role requires significant mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching. The work environment involves exposure to infectious diseases and occasional challenging interactions.
