General Summary

The Medical Assistant operates within their scope to assist clinical staff by performing patient care duties, maintaining professionalism, and ensuring smooth clinic operations. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, a critical thinker, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control and safe patient handling.
• Provide direct patient interaction such as escorting patients, obtaining vital signs, EKGs, and verifying medical histories and medications.
• Document patient information accurately and promptly in electronic health records.
• Manage phone communications, route messages, and assist with patient inquiries and test result follow-ups.
• Assist with medication renewals, authorizations, and administration as ordered.
• Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Schedule appointments, procedures, and admissions as directed by providers.
• Complete necessary paperwork including prior authorizations and referrals efficiently.
• Maintain supply inventory and ensure exam areas are clean and well-stocked.
• Educate patients and guardians on electronic health record portals and assist with enrollment.
• Support orientation and training of new medical assistants.
• Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, adaptability, and maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.

Education

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program is required, or equivalent experience. A high school diploma is mandatory.

Experience

At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or similar role is preferred. Experience in a medical clinic setting is advantageous.

Certification and Licenses

• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential from an accredited organization such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT) is preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This position requires significant mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, walking, standing, bending, and reaching. The role involves frequent exposure to infectious diseases and potentially hostile individuals, with minimal physical discomfort expected.
