Assistant Softball Coach

Job Title Assistant Softball Coach Agency Texas A&M University – Texarkana Location Texarkana, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description The Assistant Coach provides assistance to the head coach with all areas of team administration and management, including practice sessions, conditioning workouts, monitoring of student‑athlete academic progress, and evaluation and recruitment of prospective student‑athletes for the team. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist the head coach and other staff members with routine administrative responsibilities of the assigned sport program and management of the men/women’s team. Coaching at the direction of the head coach, providing instruction, demonstration, and teaching the sport's dynamics to student‑athletes to ensure maximum team and individual potential. Recruit and scout prospective student-athletes from high school, junior and community colleges; make recommendations to the head coach regarding their potential. Stay current with NAIA guidelines, maintain up‑to‑date rosters and other required data, and report any rule violations to the appropriate officials. Assist the head coach in coordinating team travel, arranging competitive schedules, organizing and scheduling practice sessions. Update and maintain student‑athlete recruiting databases and files (both hard copy and video) of opponents. Assist in implementing and maintaining a comprehensive public relations program. Assist in managing the operations of sport camps and/or clinics. Assist in managing all department fund‑raising and booster events in accordance with NAIA, Red River Athletic Conference, and institutional rules, policies, and procedures. Establish and enforce rules and regulations concerning student‑athlete conduct, appearance, punctuality, and other areas to ensure compliance. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least one year of prior high school, collegiate, or higher‑level coaching and playing experience. General knowledge of NAIA and NCAA rules. Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong oral and written communication skills. Possession of a Texas or Arkansas class “C” vehicle operator’s license, or ability to obtain it within 30 days of employment. Acceptable driving record and completion of van safety course. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Physical Requirements Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects; working in all weather conditions; exposure to high noise levels; standing throughout the day; using a loud voice at practices and events; physical involvement in all practices and workouts with players. Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours. Other Requirements May be required to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by HIPAA regulations; completion of FERPA and HIPAA training within a reasonable timeframe after employment.
