Job Description
The Quality Supervisor leads day-to-day quality operations within a manufacturing environment, ensuring products consistently meet customer, industry, and regulatory requirements. This role maintains and improves quality systems and documentation, supervises a team of quality technicians and inspectors, and drives continuous improvement initiatives across production and manufacturing processes. The position combines hands-on inspection and technical work with ownership of quality documentation, audits, and cross-functional collaboration to reduce defects, scrap, and rework while supporting overall operational excellence.
Responsibilities

• Lead daily quality operations across manufacturing and production activities to ensure consistent product performance and compliance with requirements.
• Maintain, update, and improve quality systems, procedures, and work instructions to support standardized and reliable processes.
• Monitor production quality metrics and key performance indicators, analyzing results to identify issues and implement improvements that reduce defects, scrap, and rework.
• Conduct thorough investigations into quality issues, customer concerns, and process deviations, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Perform internal quality audits and serve as a spokesperson for ISO documentation and audits, ensuring adherence to ISO 9001 and other applicable standards.
• Support compliance with customer, industry, and regulatory quality requirements through robust documentation, audits, and process controls.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, operations, production, and supply chain teams to improve manufacturing processes and product quality.
• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and quality documentation to guide inspection activities and ensure product conformity.
• Collect, review, and analyze quality data to identify trends, systemic issues, and opportunities for process improvement.
• Develop, maintain, and organize documentation related to inspections, audits, corrective actions, PPAP submissions, and overall quality performance.
• Supervise, coach, and develop a team of approximately 5-7 quality technicians and inspectors, providing guidance, performance feedback, and training.
• Promote and reinforce a culture of continuous improvement, quality ownership, and accountability across the quality team and broader operations.
• Partner with suppliers to address material quality issues, perform supplier quality activities, and drive improvements in supplier performance.
• Support customer-facing quality activities, including issue resolution, corrective action responses, and preparation of quality performance reports.
• Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, standardization, and operational excellence within the quality function and across manufacturing.
• Balance technical documentation responsibilities with hands-on quality work on the production floor, remaining comfortable and effective in both environments.
• Utilize measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers to perform inspections and verify conformance to specifications.
• Ensure that quality inspection activities are conducted accurately and consistently, and that nonconformances are documented and addressed promptly.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience leading quality teams within a manufacturing environment, including direct supervision of quality technicians or inspectors.
• Strong understanding of quality systems and quality management principles, including ISO 9001 requirements and implementation.
• Hands-on experience conducting audits, including internal audits and support for external or customer audits.
• Demonstrated expertise in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and quality documentation to guide inspection and quality decisions.
• Experience working cross-functionally with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to resolve quality issues and improve processes.
• Proficiency in quality assurance, quality control, quality inspection, and quality engineering practices within a machining or manufacturing context.
• Experience with Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and related documentation and submission requirements.
• Familiarity with supplier quality processes, including addressing material quality issues and improving supplier performance.
• Strong supervision and leadership skills, with the ability to manage and develop a team of 5-7 direct reports.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with internal teams, suppliers, and customers.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to identifying trends and implementing process improvements.
• Ability to use precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers for inspection and verification tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience driving ISO documentation, acting as the primary spokesperson for audits and quality system compliance.
• Background in machining environments or similar manufacturing settings where precision and tight tolerances are critical.
• Experience with quality management systems and tools used to track inspections, nonconformances, and corrective actions.
• Comfort working in a role that blends technical documentation responsibilities with hands-on quality work on the shop floor.
• Familiarity with standard quality methodologies and tools used in continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
• Ability to develop and maintain organized records of inspections, audits, corrective actions, and quality performance metrics.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when managing multiple quality projects and documentation streams.
• Adaptability to support facility transitions and long-term operational changes, including future relocation of operations.

Work Environment
This role operates in a manufacturing facility with a strong focus on machining and precision production. The Quality Supervisor spends time both on the production floor performing hands-on inspections and in an office setting managing documentation, audits, and quality data. The position involves regular interaction with production, engineering, operations, and supply chain teams, as well as suppliers and customer-facing quality contacts. Standard manufacturing tools and equipment, including precision measurement instruments such as calipers and micrometers, are used routinely. The environment emphasizes continuous improvement, standardization, and operational excellence. Over time, the role will support a planned transition of operations to an Elgin facility by 2028, requiring flexibility and collaboration during this change.

This is a Permanent position based out of Hanover Park, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
