Correctional Officer

Join to apply for the Correctional Officer role at Winnebago County . The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Corrections Officer. The successful applicant will perform the duties and responsibilities of a Corrections Officer. Starting wages are $26.46/hour (effective 1/1/2025). Shift schedules are 12-hour days, in a rotating 2-week schedule. Officers work 15 days a month with this cycle. Probationary officers will be assigned to day shift (6am-6pm) or night shift (6pm-6am) based on operational needs. After probation, officers can bid on shifts based on seniority. The Winnebago County Jail is the 2nd largest in the state, with a bed capacity of 1,313 and an average daily population of 750 inmates. Opportunities include K9, Field Training Officer, CERT, Gang Unit, Court Officer, Firearms Instructor, and more. Fully paid state academy training. Annual uniform allowance of $800. High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver’s license to operate a vehicle in Illinois.
