DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of the Director and in conjunction with the Medical Director of Respiratory Therapy, maintain the standards of practice and evaluate the care and practice rendered on an ongoing basis. Organize and direct functions and activities in the department. Interpret and implement established policies, procedures, regulations to personnel, patients, medical staff, and the public. Utilize personnel efficiently and assure cost-effective utilization of supplies and equipment. Provide direct clinical care as a respiratory therapist at BID Milton. Assess patient condition based on clinical experience, medical history, observations, examination, laboratory findings, and the results of specific tests or respiratory function and other appropriate diagnostic procedures. Collaborate with the healthcare team to make specific recommendations to provide respiratory care support and interventions. Administer appropriate diagnostic tests and procedures to evaluate responses to therapy, including arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation, oxygen saturation by direct measurement and pulse oximetry, end-tidal carbon dioxide measurement, pulmonary functions/mechanics, spirometry, metabolic testing, and, if needed, assist the physician with special procedures such as bronchoscopy. In collaboration with the Director, assume responsibility for overall personnel management within the department. This includes interviewing, selecting, disciplining, scheduling, assigning, supervising, evaluating performance, and any other appropriate personnel actions. Assist with developing/managing/planning the annual budget. Meet routinely with the Director to discuss patient care, staff performance, staff concerns, equipment needs, and other issues related to the nursing unit. Develop and/or maintain unit-based Quality Improvement programs. Monitor and assist in developing all appropriate competencies and skills. Coordinate, participate, and evaluate the orientation of new staff members with the assistance of assigned preceptors. Participate as a member of nursing committees, in-services, and orientation programs as directed. Attend and/or participate in in-house or outside training programs to improve and augment skills and knowledge. Assist in administering highly specialized therapy with complex technological equipment and demonstrate a high degree of autonomy in performing immediate, accurate patient assessments and appropriate interventions within the scope of the Respiratory Therapist. Additional Required Components Employee maintains competencies (position specific and hospital-wide) required for the specific patient population served. Perform all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules, and regulations set forth by appropriate regulatory and government agencies and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures. May be required to perform similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department manager or supervisor. This may cause exposure to blood and body fluids as listed in the attached Physical Abilities Job Description. Protective gear that is available is identified. Qualifications Associate Degree in Respiratory Care Current Massachusetts Respiratory Therapist License NBRC Certified AHA BLS certification required. Minimum of 2 years of experience in an acute care environment Minimum 1 year experience with Pulmonary Function Testing Prior Leadership experience (preferred) Registered or registry eligible (preferred) AHA ACLS/PALS certification (preferred) Pay Range $49.00 - $73.00 The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
