Job Description

The Senior Business Systems Analyst (BSA), Omics serves as a strategic liaison between Discovery business stakeholders, omics scientists, data scientists, engineering teams, vendors, and technology delivery organizations across AbbVie's Information Research function. This role specifically enables the systems, workflows, and data capabilities that allow omics-focused research teams to generate, manage, integrate, analyze, and reuse complex scientific data.

This role combines strong business systems analysis, consulting, relationship management, solution deployment, and delivery execution skills with practical knowledge of omics research workflows and data concepts such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and/or metabolomics. Specifically, the Senior Business Systems Analyst, Omics is responsible for eliciting and documenting business requirements, creating functional requirements, performing data and process modeling, managing any change communications, and coordinating or leading testing, verification, and validation activities with involvement from appropriate stakeholders from the business, data, and technology teams to ensure compliance and alignment with AbbVie internal standards and security controls.

Responsibilities:

Business Relationship Management 

• Partner closely with Discovery business stakeholders, dossier management, Regulatory Affairs, and IT to understand strategic objectives, operational needs, pain points, and opportunities to support omics process improvement. 
• Build and maintain trusted relationships across business, data, technology, and digital teams. 
• Support creation of value assessments, business cases, and prioritization recommendations. 
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support the broader team and organizational objectives. 

Requirements Management 

• Elicit, analyze, document, and manage business, functional, and non-functional requirements. 
• Translate business and scientific needs into actionable user stories, process flows, business requirements documents, and acceptance criteria. 
• Facilitate alignment among business stakeholders, data/engineering/AI teams, and IT partners to ensure requirements are complete, clear, and delivery ready. 
• Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures. 

Omics Program and Project Support 

• Take ownership of systems within the Omics area, ensuring they are well-maintained, optimized, and compliant.
• Engage with vendors to facilitate system enhancements and troubleshoot issues, ensuring that external partnerships align with business needs and objectives. 
• Operate with a high degree of independence, exercising sound business judgment to evaluate problems, recommend solutions, make informed technical and process decisions within scope, and deliver results that meet business and project objectives. 
• Exercise latitude in problem solving and solution recommendations, balancing scientific, business, technical, compliance, and resource considerations to deliver outcomes that minimize project delays, rework, and unnecessary expenditure of resources. 

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Genomics, Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or related discipline, OR Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related discipline with life science research/experience.
• Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience OR Master’s Degree with 4 years of experience.
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in business systems analysis, business systems consulting, product ownership, project delivery, technology consulting, or related discipline.
• Foundational understanding of omics research workflows and data concepts (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics). 
• Experience eliciting, documenting, and managing business and functional requirements.
• Experience facilitating stakeholder discussions and translating business/scientific needs into technology solutions.
• Experience supporting enterprise software delivery initiatives; understanding of SDLC methodologies, Agile practices, and modern product delivery approaches.
• Working understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs), generative AI, and traditional AI/ML concepts, and how to apply and select them for best fit.
• Strong analytical, communication, project-management, and relationship-management skills; a demonstrated work ethic emphasizing customer focus, quality, and continuous improvement. 

Preferred:

• Previous wet lab experience is highly desirable.
• Experience supporting AI, analytics, digital transformation, or automation initiatives.
• Experience with omics informatics platforms, laboratory/research data platforms, data visualization or analytics tools, or cloud-based environments.
• Pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, manufacturing, or other regulated-industry experience.
• Experience supporting change management and technology adoption activities.

• The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this roleat  the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on manyfactors  including  geographic location, and we may ultimately  pay more or less than the posted range.
