The Northeast Maryland Waste Disposal Authority is hiring for either a Staff Accountant or Senior Staff Accountant position, based on qualifications and experience. The Authority provides recycling, solid waste management, and planning services to the City of Baltimore and seven member jurisdictions.

Compensation and Status

· Staff Accountant Salary Range: $62,301 - $89,652

· Senior Staff Accountant Salary Range: $78,255 - $116,625

· Status: Full-Time

· Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package, including participation in the State of Maryland’s Health Benefits and Pension Programs

· Parking: On-site parking included; bus pass provided as appropriate

· Work Schedule: Hybrid schedule available after 6 months

Qualifications by Level

· Staff Accountant: High school diploma or equivalent and five years of bookkeeping or general accounting experience; equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered. A bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting is preferred.

· Senior Staff Accountant: Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting and five years of full-time general accounting or related experience; equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.

· The Executive Director may substitute general or specialized experience for education.

Skills by Level

· Staff Accountant: Knowledge of bookkeeping, office systems, and administrative practices; experience with cash receipts, disbursements, payroll, purchases, invoices, journal entries, reporting, quarterly financial statement support, and audit support; strong Excel, problem-solving, and teamwork skills; familiarity with QuickBooks Pro and Microsoft 365.

· Senior Staff Accountant: Strong accounting knowledge and experience with computerized ledger systems, payroll, purchases, and journals; ability to prepare financial statements, reconciliations, budget reports, workpapers, and audit support; advanced Excel skills; strong analytical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills; familiarity with QuickBooks Pro and Microsoft 365.

Duties by Level

· Staff Accountant: Performs bookkeeping and accounting support, including cash receipts, disbursements, payroll, purchases, invoices, journal entries, reporting, quarterly financial statement support, audit support, and routine administrative duties.

· Senior Staff Accountant: Performs higher-level accounting work, including financial statements, reconciliations, discrepancy analysis, transaction review, invoicing, budget reports, workpapers, and year-end audit support or management.

Work Environment

· Work involves confidential information and requires sound judgment, discretion, and independent action.

· The position operates under the general supervision of the Director of Administration and Contracts.

· The selected candidate is expected to develop effective work methods and complete assignments with minimal direction.
