Senior Accountant

Chesapeake Search Partners is partnering with a growing construction company in the Baltimore area to identify a Senior Accountant to join its accounting team.

This is a newly created position reporting directly to the CFO and offers a unique opportunity to gain broad exposure across operational accounting, project accounting, financial reporting, and process improvement initiatives. The role will serve as a key member of the accounting team, working closely with both finance and operations while helping support the company's continued growth.

The organization has experienced significant growth and is seeking an accounting professional who is eager to take ownership, expand their responsibilities over time, and develop into a larger leadership role within the accounting function.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger review
• Analyze project costs, billing activity, and financial performance across active projects
• Partner with Project Managers and accounting personnel to ensure accurate cost tracking and financial reporting
• Assist with WIP reporting, job costing analysis, and project-related accounting activities
• Support oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and related subledger activities
• Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
• Assist with cash flow monitoring, budgeting support, and financial analysis
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and help strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 3-4+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Construction, project-based, manufacturing, distribution, or other operational accounting experience preferred
• Strong understanding of month-end close, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting
• Experience working with multiple accounting functions, including AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets, or cost accounting
• Strong Excel skills and overall systems aptitude
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and interested in taking on increasing responsibility
