Departmental Overview University Health Services (UHS) works to promote a campus that actively cultivates better health and wellbeing. UHS provides comprehensive medical, mental health, insurance, and health promotion services to all Berkeley students, faculty, and staff. In addition, UHS encourages and expands wellness opportunities at multiple levels of campus policy, infrastructure, institutional practices, and individual choice. Position Summary The Health Educator 4 (HE4) will lead UC Berkeley in crafting and implementing an effective, comprehensive educational plan that addresses gender‑expansive care and establishes a collective impact framework for campus‑wide wellbeing initiatives. Major functions include coaching, planning, implementing, evaluating sustainable prevention initiatives, and building key partnerships locally, nationally, and within the university. Responsibilities Health Coaching & Care Navigation Serve as the first point of contact for undergraduate and graduate students seeking gender‑affirming care through 1:1 sessions and drop‑in hours. Provide holistic health coaching, care navigation support, resource referral, and advocacy for topics relevant to trans, nonbinary, and gender‑diverse communities, including but not limited to gender‑affirming healthcare access, name, gender marker, pronoun changes, bias or harassment, sexual health, basic needs, and other emerging issues. Support students regarding healthcare navigation related to gender‑affirming care within and external to University Health Services, including scheduling, connections to providers and staff, and health insurance navigation (in partnership with Student Health Insurance Plan staff). Education, Training & Resource Development Provide education and training for UHS staff on supporting and providing culturally competent care for trans, nonbinary, and gender‑diverse patients. In partnership with the Gender Equity Resource Center, deliver in‑person and online trainings for campus constituents. Collaborate with, advise, and support peer education initiatives related to gender & sexuality. Develop and maintain UHS resources relevant to trans, nonbinary, and gender‑diverse student needs. Develop and collaborate on programming on issues relevant to trans, nonbinary, and gender‑diverse communities in partnership with the Gender Equity Resource Center. Advise and consult on campus initiatives and programming relevant to these communities. Advising, Coordination, & Consultation Provide comprehensive guidance to senior leadership and committees, utilizing knowledge of power dynamics, privilege, oppression, gendered violence, and related topics. Serve on UHS Trans & Gender Diverse Care & Trans Leadership teams; serve as UHS Liaison to the Trans Student Wellness Initiative; serve on relevant campus committees. Advise, consult, and provide information on policies relevant to trans, nonbinary, and gender‑diverse communities. Serve as a health/wellness liaison to specific student communities, develop collaborations, identify strategies, support individual and environmental initiatives; address student concerns; support unit accessibility via administrative processes. Other Duties As Assigned Professional development: stay abreast of evolving trends regarding gender‑affirming care, health education, equity practices, identity development, coaching and counseling techniques, higher education policy, and other relevant issues. Support other health promotion initiatives and unit strategic planning efforts as needed. Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 3‑5 years of experience with program assessment and evaluation, including developing key performance indicators, metrics, and data collection/analysis systems. Strong communication skills (written, verbal, etc.) to prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and proposals for diverse audiences while ensuring compliance with department and university guidelines. Demonstrated ability and political acumen to interact effectively at all levels of the organization and sustain collaborative relationships with staff, faculty, students, and community stakeholders. Expertise in identifying organizational needs for program development and implementation; ability to analyze, interpret, and respond to community needs. 3‑5 years of experience with health coaching or similar advising for a student population; understanding of health‑in‑all‑policies, Collective Impact, and the Okanagan Charter. Proficiency in health records technology and adherence to privacy, confidentiality, and risk‑management policies. Broad knowledge of power dynamics, privilege, oppression, gendered violence, and related issues on the campus. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree preferred. Salary & Benefits Budgeted salary range: $95,000 – $105,000. This is a 100%, full‑time (40 hours per week), career position eligible for full UC benefits. This position is exempt and paid monthly.
