Echocardiographer Position

Shift: 0.75 FTE Day shift No weekend or call requirements

The Echocardiographer performs high-quality, non-invasive cardiac ultrasound procedures to assist in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease. The Echocardiographer applies critical thinking and cognitive sonographic skills to evaluate and document anatomical and pathological findings, adjusting procedures as necessary to ensure accurate diagnostic information. Exams are performed within standard protocols on adult and geriatric patients, and occasionally on adolescent age groups in an outpatient and inpatient setting.

Responsibilities of this position include:

• Performs cardiac ultrasound procedures according to established imaging protocols. Calculates measurements of echocardiographic structures and records clinical findings for interpreting physician.
• Performs contrast administration and agitated saline bubble studies, initiating IV placement if necessary.
• Informs interpreting physician and appropriate team members if an abnormal finding or significant change is present from previous examination.
• Reviews patient's medical record to obtain necessary clinical information including patient history, lab results, and physician orders. Obtains necessary clinical information from patients and compares requisition to provider's orders to ensure exam accuracy.
• Communicates to patient and family members in a timely and thorough manner that enhances the patient experience and promotes learning to understand procedures, symptoms, and to support health care outcomes.
• Requests maintenance to echocardiography imaging equipment as necessary to maintain optimal working condition. Coordinates with appropriate support personnel for routine maintenance of echocardiography imaging equipment.
• Cleans echocardiography equipment according to the manufacture's guidelines.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of computer applications (EHR and PACS). Prepares images, records anatomical measurements and clinical findings in cardiac imaging management system.

Requirements of this position include:

• Bachelor degree in Ultrasonography, Radiology, Biological Sciences or relevant health sciences field preferred
• 2 years of echocardiography experience preferred
• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Certification by ARDMS; BLS Certificate required
