Job Title: Ultrasound Technologist (Part- Time) 

Salary: $35 - $40 per hour DOE

Location: Westminster, CA

Openings: 1

Position Purpose: Under indirect supervision, performs a variety of diagnostic medical sonograms utilizing complex ultrasound equipment and transducers.

Core Duties and responsibilities, include but are not limited to:

Is responsive to the needs of others by maintaining a professional behavior toward members and coworkers and creating a positive image for the department, as demonstrated by:

1. Providing compassionate service.
2. Identifies the impact of cultural diversity and lifestyle choices on patient condition and makes accommodations for such differences.
3. Demonstrates competency and understands the overall operational functions of the department to include all reception duties and cashier functions.
4. Observes radiation and department safety policies.
5. Adjusts technical factors relative to the requirements of the study and the physical maturation of the patient.
6. Modifies patient positioning techniques relative to the patient’s physical and cognitive abilities.
7. Always takes special care in handling, positioning and/or restraining infants and geriatric patients to avoid injury or excessive radiation exposure.
8. Demonstrates competence in the operation of diagnostic ultrasound equipment, real-time and mobile, to obtain quality diagnostic images.
9. Consistently selects correct technical factors relative to the requirements of the study and the patient’s age and body habitus.
10. Consistently selects equipment settings and appropriate transducers in accordance with department protocols and patient body habitus.
11. Consistently processes hard copy images properly, utilizing automated equipment.
12. Properly and consistently follows specific infection control techniques relative to ultrasound imaging (e.g., cold sterilization of probes, use of condoms on endocavity probes, etc.).
13. Routinely manipulates transducer appropriately to obtain the desired images.
14. Exercises good clinical judgment.
15. Consults with the radiologist or other clinician for purposes of clarifying orders.
16. Selects alternate or additional views appropriately relative to the patient’s condition.
17. Does not attempt to perform an exam in any case in which it cannot be performed safely and/or properly.
18. Consistently demonstrates the ability to differentiate between normal and abnormal anatomy.
19. Documents clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive and accurate manner.
20. Completes and initials the standard consultation form and the Radiology Processing Record accurately and immediately following each procedure.
21. Routinely documents patient history relative to previous surgery, childbirth and other conditions which could affect the ultrasonic image of internal organs
22. Routinely provides timely feedback to management regarding operational problems and personnel issues.
23. Communicates effectively with other departments to promote positive interdepartmental relationships.
24. Informs members of reason for any delays or anticipated delays in their care.
25. Treats all patients in accordance with the Patients Bill of Rights.
26. Speaks English in the presence of patients except as required to interpret for non-English speaking patients.
27. In writing, communicates accurately, completely, and legibly, and routes such communication appropriately and in a timely manner.
28. Strives to maintain good working relationships and rapport with patients, other members of the department and the health care team.
29. Responds appropriately to constructive criticism from supervisors and peers.
30. Maintains equipment, supplies and work area in accordance with department guidelines.
31. Keeps equipment and work area clean at all times.
32. Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisory staff promptly.

Education, Qualifications, and Experience:

• Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited ultrasound program or a graduate from a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Ob-Gyn from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Abdomen from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate – registered vascular technologist from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
• Basic Life Support
• Bilingual: Spanish or Vietnamese (preferred)
• Ultrasound: 1 year (Required)
• Biopsy: 1 year (Required)
• Breast Ultrasound: 2 years (Preferred)
• Vascular Ultrasound: 2 years (Preferred) Must excel in multitasking within a high-paced environment.
• Strong computer skills, acute attention to detail, confident and professional communication.
• Responsiveness to the needs of both internal/external stakeholders in a professional and personable manner are expected.
• Knowledgeable in general EMR/EHR systems is preferred.
• ARDMS (not SPI) (Required)
• Registered Vascular Technologist (Preferred)
• ARDMS (breast) (Preferred)

Work Schedule:

• FTOC is an in-person organization first and foremost. Employees are expected to be on-site for their scheduled shifts.
• Hours of operation are Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., however, employee schedules vary, depending on organizational, staffing, community, and patient needs. As such, FTOC may need to modify work schedules to meet such needs.
• Holidays and weekends may be required depending on an employee’s department due to organizational, staffing, community, and patient needs as FTOC continues to grow and expand work days and hours.
• Overtime may also occur due to organizational, staffing, community, and patient needs.
