Pharmacy Technician II

Assists with operational and all distribution responsibilities as they are related to Pharmacy Technician functions including Orlando Health software and hardware systems. This position is nights but the first month will be mostly day shifts for training purposes. Responsibilities include: Demonstrating an understanding of safety, emergency, and risk management procedures. Demonstrating an understanding of the hospital mission, personnel policies, philosophy, goals, customer service, and objectives of the Pharmacy and Orlando Health. Demonstrating familiarity with the general duties and processes of the Pharmacy department. Demonstrating the ability to operate the equipment required for pharmacy procedures, consistent with operating instructions, safety regulations and policy and procedures. Performing the basic Pharmacy Technician procedures required by the assigned area consistent with scientific principles, policy, and procedures. Performing the basic buyer procedures including drug procurement required by the department and consistent with departmental principles and Orlando Health policies and procedures. Accurately assisting the Pharmacist in all duties pertaining to the medication distribution including proper aseptic techniques for admixture of various types of medication (e.g. chemotherapy) and functionally performing tasks/procedures associated with automated dispensing cabinets. Maintaining USP 797 standards and other regulatory required documentation. Maintaining safe handling and proper disposal requirements. Responsible for special project completion as assigned. Participating in the training of new pharmacy technicians if needed. Maintaining advanced expertise in and actively covering technician services in a specialized practice area (eg. medication history acquisition) depending on the needs of the department. Maintaining reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. Maintaining compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Attending in-services/meetings as required. Assuming responsibility for professional development and continuing education. Completing all Orlando Health mandatory education.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Greater than one year up to four (4) of experience as a pharmacy technician. Current experience in a hospital setting. Maintains current Pharmacy Technician registration with the Florida State Board of Pharmacy.
