The American School for the Deaf (ASD) is the oldest school for the deaf, founded in 1817 by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc. The American School for the Deaf is committed to serving deaf and hard of hearing infants, youth, and their families in development of intellect and the enhancement of quality of life utilizing specially designed instruction through an American Sign Language and English Bilingual Approach, empowering them to become educated and self-directed life-long learners.

ASD is located in West Hartford, a town recognized as one of the top ten towns for raising families. POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position: Birth to Three Coordinator

Supervisor: Director of Birth to Three Program

Description: 11 months – Benefits Eligible

Union Status: Non-Collective Bargaining

SCOPE OF DUTIES:

Under the supervision of the Birth to Three Director, the coordinator will work to ensure needed services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children are met. The Birth to Three Coordinator will provide comprehensive support and professional leadership to children, families, and providers as well as ensure compliance with best practices and OEC guidelines. Assists in the coordination of all activities of the department including collaboration with state and local agencies.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Assist the Director to ensure substantial compliance with state and federal regulations; continually monitor program status as well as researching trends and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to program providers including attending regular meetings and serving as a resource in best practices.
• Coordinates and conducts trainings for staff in Evidence Based Practices (NLEP, Coaching, PSP)
• Assists the Director in ensuring timely and accurate completion of paperwork submitted by staff to maximize compliance and reimbursement for services.
• Provides early intervention services to families and other Birth to Three agencies as needed.
• Assist the Director in ensuring that providers align with the vision, mission and strategic goals of the American School for the Deaf.
• Communicates appropriately with colleagues, families, administrators and the public.
• Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and gathers and analyzes information effectively.
• Assists in the recruitment and selection of staff for the program.
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• CT State Department of Education certification in an appropriate field (i.e. 057, 165, 070).
• At least 3-5 years proven track record as a Birth to Three provider including as a service coordinator.
• Ability or willingness to learn to communicate effectively using American Sign Language (ASL).

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

• Group health insurance and other fringe benefits are available.
• $1000 sign on bonus after one year of service for newly hired employees, not applicable for re-hires.
