Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited program in allopathic or osteopathic medicine The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion. Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to board certification. Non‑US residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the U.S. (eligible U.S. fellowships count). Residents currently enrolled in an ACGME/AOA accredited program can be appointed as “Physician Resident Providers” (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians, may be appointed on an intermittent basis, and perform duties under supervision. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Johnson VA Medical Center, historic downtown Charleston, SC – a tertiary‑care teaching hospital serving over 75 000 veterans along the South Carolina and Georgia coast. The 152‑bed hospital includes six outpatient clinics, a 20‑bed nursing home, women’s health, and the full range of inpatient and outpatient care including Medical and Surgical Intensive Care. The VAMC provides more than 934 000 outpatient visits and approximately 4 300 inpatient stays annually. Clinical Responsibilities: provide inpatient and outpatient evaluation and management of veterans with arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, syncope, inherited channelopathies); perform invasive EP procedures and oversee remote device monitoring and antiarrhythmic medication management; perform history and physical examinations; enter progress notes; prescribe medications per formulary and law; educate patients on medical conditions and preventive care. Teaching and Fellow Supervision: supervise and mentor MUSC cardiology and EP fellows rotating through the Ralph Johnson VA; provide hands‑on procedural training, case‑based instruction, and formal ACGME‑compliant evaluations; participate in joint VA‑MUSC conferences, grand rounds, and didactic sessions. Academic and Research: conduct clinical research with VA patient population, collaborate with MUSC faculty on IRB‑approved studies, quality improvement initiatives, and peer‑reviewed publications.
