Position Summary This position is responsible for operating multiple Veolia contracted client water and wastewater facilities. The primary purpose of this position is to cover vacations & absences at existing facilities, assist in the training and development of local operations teams, and to serve in a support role at new account start‑ups. The role includes process changes to meet compliance, troubleshooting processes & equipment, maintenance (routine, reactive, and preventive), process & compliance sampling, laboratory testing, and writing and distributing a daily shift report. The position requires significant travel, sometimes for extended periods of time – ranging from 1‑2 weeks away from home to a month for extenuating circumstances. Essential Operational Duties and Responsibilities Maintain complete operational coverage of Veolia operated facilities in your designated region as vacations and unplanned absences arise, requiring significant schedule flexibility. Assist in the operational development of all local technicians through in‑person training visits, development of electronic training materials, and directing training efforts. Ensure industry standards and best practices are in use at all Veolia operated facilities. Support new account start‑up projects in collaboration with the Senior Wastewater Operational Technician (SWOT) team. Provide knowledgeable support to local technicians for troubleshooting process issues and ensuring proactive decisions. Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of water into the wastewater treatment plant. Collect and test wastewater samples at specified frequencies. Maintain accurate record keeping of client data such as residual content of chemicals, water turbidity, and pressure. Comply with all Veolia and client safety parameters and programs. Analyze lab data to uncover potential treatment issues and implement process changes to prevent non‑compliance. Compile data for the Environmental Protection Agency or state regulatory bodies as required. Coordinate with other operators throughout the client’s facility to maintain wastewater treatment equipment. Consult with clients and Veolia management on operations to determine the best treatment for wastewater. Essential Maintenance Duties and Responsibilities Coordinate with the client to schedule third‑party maintenance support for projects outside Veolia’s scope of work. Complete all preventative maintenance tasks defined by Veolia and client management at the designated frequency. Assist in minor maintenance projects such as chemical pump repair, small PVC piping installation, valve replacement, and AOD pump repairs. Assist in intermediate maintenance projects including replacement of mechanical pump seals, packing seals, impellers, full PVC line replacements, and centrifugal pump replacements. Supervisory Responsibilities Willingness and availability to work with fellow operators on off‑shifts when problems arise. 24/7 availability to wastewater operators and client management. Communicate frequently with the Veolia Account Manager regarding plant operation, compliance, maintenance, and personnel issues. Provide supervision and leadership to team members, exemplifying hard work, attention to detail, fair treatment, and responsibility. Direct the team on daily operation and maintenance to ensure compliance, including process changes, chemical feed rates, and sampling. Provide and facilitate training of operators for all facets of operation and management. Create and maintain facility‑specific SOPs. Continuously optimize plant operation, chemistry, and equipment to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Innovation, Planning & Budget Develop creative and innovative ideas related to process improvements within the department. Manage inventories of lab supplies, consumable items, and equipment parts. Assist in developing maintenance program inventories and consumable items. Decision Making Receive assignments with results, due dates, and procedures. Make process changes based on lab data and knowledge to correct compliance issues. Refer unusual cases or questionable matters to the supervisor. Discuss significant issues with the account manager to ensure reasonable actions. Evaluate operators’ skills to assign tasks such as lab analyses, maintenance, and inventory management. Schedule outside support for maintenance projects as needed. Participate in team meetings and collaborate regularly. Actively cover colleagues’ absences to maintain continuous coverage. Communicate continuously with client and Veolia management. General Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Proficiency with Microsoft Office or equivalent. Strong mechanical aptitude. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Willingness to learn and follow instructions on wastewater treatment processes. 3+ years of experience in wastewater treatment plant operations or a related field. Prior experience in a traveling work role. Working Conditions The work environment includes wastewater treatment plants and outdoor settings. The job holder may be exposed to extreme weather, chemicals, electrical hazards, loud noises, vibrations, and other hazardous conditions. Physical requirements include lifting up to 75 pounds, climbing a vertical ladder up to 30 feet, standing for long periods, walking on uneven surfaces, and using extension ladders and forklifts.
