Location(s) Denver, Colorado, United States of America Phoenix, Oregon, United States of America Portland, Oregon, United States of America San Francisco, California, United States of America Seattle, Washington, United States of America Position Overview We are seeking Building Automation Design Engineers who will create unique design solutions to meet specific customer requirements for commercial building automation systems in new and existing facilities. Designers will also make recommendations for productivity improvements and cost reductions to increase customer satisfaction and job profitability. The role is hybrid, combining remote work with periodic visits to the local office or worksite as needed. Responsibilities Understand project requirements and design building automation solutions for higher education and K‑12 education facilities, data centers, hospitals, pharmaceutical facilities, high‑rise buildings, and lab facilities. Demonstrate expertise in engineering and contracting processes, with a strong grasp of submittal requirements and documentation standards essential for project success. Attend internal and external meetings to support potential opportunities and contribute technical details to project designs; meetings can be held at project sites, contractor offices, and/or Siemens area offices. Prepare and/or work with an engineer to prepare design documents, including mechanical system layouts, electrical drawings, system integration, bills of materials, sequences of operations, valve and damper schedules, and DDC panel layouts. Design building automation network architecture to support operator workstations, DDC field panels, and third‑party integration devices connected through Modbus, Siemens APOGEE, Desigo, or BACnet. Analyze plans, construction contract specifications, and codes to determine project requirements and risks. Design building and space pressurization solutions, chiller and boiler plant sequencing control, and related systems. Prepare engineering re‑estimates and follow up with appropriate sales and management to ensure understanding of and satisfaction with job scope. Perform quality assurance; peer‑review engineering documents. Qualifications Basic Qualifications High school diploma or state‑recognized GED. 5+ years of experience in building automation (HVAC controls) design. Ability to travel up to 35%. Demonstrated ability to design large and complex jobs with some deviation using standard tools, products, and practices. Demonstrated knowledge of industry engineering fundamentals and business operations. Proficiency in engineering design software or drafting tools such as AutoCAD or Microsoft Visio. Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continuing and permanent basis without company sponsorship. Hybrid work model with visits to the local office and contractor sites as required. Occasional travel for important team gatherings, project kick‑offs, strategic discussions, or training. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and the premium geographic location.
