Facilities Custodial Supervisor - Lead Cleaning Team

Job Title Custodial Supervisor Overview Under supervision, performs ordinary difficulty work, supervising cleaning and maintenance of buildings, furnishings, and immediate grounds. Manages a small- to medium-sized team of clean staff and ensures high cleaning standards, compliance with regulations, and efficient operations. Responsibilities Inspect work of subordinates to ensure maximum efficiency, economy, and quality. Prepare work schedules using college scheduling systems. Store, issue supplies, and maintain accurate inventory of consumable and cleaning products. Train new employees or arrange for their training. Monitor and evaluate employee performance according to CUNY guidelines. Maintain records and prepare required reports. Oversee usage and maintenance of cleaning equipment such as compactors, extractors, buffing machines, vacuum cleaners, etc. Perform minor maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs. Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and conditions. Direct use of high dusters and extensions in compliance with safety regulations. Maintain exceptionally high cleaning standards in each building. Conduct regular building inspections to verify scope of work. Supervise and train a team of approximately 35 full‑time and part‑time custodial assistants. Conduct staff evaluations and hold regular supervisory meetings. Schedule overtime for special events and create/manage work orders. Order supplies and equipment as needed. Assume cleaning responsibility when necessary and perform other assigned duties. Minimum Qualifications Completion of eighth‑grade education and three years of full‑time experience in building cleaning and maintenance. At least one year of full‑time work experience described above; up to two years of higher education may substitute for one year of experience. Full‑time work is defined as 35 hours per week; part‑time experience of 20+ hours per week may be prorated. Demonstrated English language proficiency (speaking, reading, writing, understanding). By the end of the probationary period, demonstrated competency in supervising employees. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of operating stripping, scrubbing, and/or buffing machines. Prior supervisory experience. Experience receiving, storing, and issuing supplies to staff. Experience conducting regular building inspections according to standards. Experience maintaining organized storage areas and supply closets, and ordering cleaning supplies and equipment. Compensation New Hire: $39,922* Incumbent: $44,682 (includes a 13% salary suppression for the first 24 months).
