Tech Transfer Accountant II

Overview

This position's work location is fully remote with the ocassional time onsite as needed. The selected candidate may only work remotely from a New England state (ME, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI).

The Technology Transfer Accountant II is a key member of the Accounting and Finance function of the Belfer Office for Dana-Farber Innovations (BODFI). With support from their manager and senior members of the BODFI Finance team, the role helps provide day-to-day post agreement execution financial management for financial bearing agreements negotiated by BODFI, ensuring the timely and accurate recording of financial information within BODFI’s current database.

In addition, this position is responsible for numerous general accounting functions that involve preparation, analysis, and reconciliation of BODFI’s accounting records, internal and external financial reports, and accounting policies and procedures. This role provides assistance to BODFI Finance and Operations management in the implementation of any new or modified accounting systems and in the coordination and preparation for audits.

This role reports to the BODFI Finance Lead and works closely with BODFI’s Licensing Professionals, Business Analyst, DFCI Department Project Leaders and Department Grants Management Specialists (DGMS), Principal Investigators (PIs) and Centers; and with DFCI’s Research Accounting and General Accounting departments.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of financial systems and processes to meet BODFI operational goals. Test and learn new workflows and processes to enhance daily operations and data management. Reconcile data within the Minuet database in collaboration with management and partner offices to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Assist in preparing interim, monthly, and annual financial reports to monitor income from financial-bearing agreements. Perform budget-to-actual reconciliations and prepare monthly cash reporting for BODFI. Support the legal accrual process as needed.
• Prepare detailed reconciliations and analyses for assigned responsibilities and special projects, collaborating with General Accounting and Research Accounting when necessary. Reconcile milestone cash receipts in Minuet against SRA payments recorded in Workday. Track SRA milestones to support timely invoicing and coordinate with appropriate departments as needed.
• Responsible and accountable for monitoring all BODFI receivables including sponsored research funding and licensing revenue.
• Work with BODFI’s Database Manager, BODFI Finance, and on occasions other pertinent departments, to research and resolve data and system discrepancies as they relate to financial operations.
• Perform other related duties as needed and assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting principles and practices
• Technical and professional accounting skills; strong reconciliation skills; the ability to work in computer-based, automated accounting systems, accounting procedures and control systems
• Ability to proactively define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw informed conclusions and report to BODFI management
• Ability to effectively communicate and maintain favorable working relationships with individuals at all levels in and outside of DFCI
• Highly motivated, self-directed individual with strong interpersonal and analytical skills with the ability to be an active participant on various committees and project teams
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Possesses understanding of DFCI policies regarding management of industry Sponsored Research and other BODFI financial matters as appropriate
• Ability to multi-task and function as an integral member of the team

Minimum Job Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Accounting, Finance, or Business related field.
• 3 years of related work experience required.
• Experience in the healthcare industry or non-profit organization preferred.
• Workday experience and skills preferred.

Pay Transparency Statement

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.

For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
