Job Description

This project-based role oversees HVAC installation work, including sheet metal, chillers, air conditioning units, and piping on commercial projects in Holland and Byron Center, MI. The foreman leads a field crew, coordinates daily tasks, and ensures that rough duct work through final installation is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule according to plans and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee HVAC installation activities on project sites, including sheet metal ductwork, chillers, air conditioning units, and associated piping.
• Review and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to plan daily tasks and ensure accurate installation.
• Coordinate and direct the work of installation laborers and technicians, providing clear instructions and on-the-job guidance.
• Organize and manage rough duct work through to final installation, ensuring all components are properly aligned, supported, and secured.
• Bend, cut, fit, and connect sheet metal ductwork using appropriate tools and methods while maintaining quality and safety standards.
• Verify that installed systems comply with project requirements, mechanical standards, and applicable codes.
• Monitor job progress throughout the day to ensure work stays on schedule and meets quality expectations.
• Inspect materials and equipment for proper use and report any issues, shortages, or defects to the appropriate parties.
• Promote and enforce safe work practices on site, including proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective gear.
• Communicate effectively with project stakeholders to relay job status, issues, and needs as they arise.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure tools and equipment are properly stored and cared for at the end of each shift.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with HVAC installation, including chillers, air conditioning units, and associated piping systems.
• Proficiency in sheet metal work, including bending, cutting, fitting, and connecting ductwork.
• Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and mechanical drawings.
• Experience in construction and mechanical installation environments.
• Capability to perform physically demanding labor, including lifting, carrying, and working on ladders or in tight spaces.
• Skill in using hand tools and power drills required for HVAC and sheet metal installation.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail to ensure accurate and high-quality installations.
• Reliable work ethic with the ability to consistently work 1st shift hours, Monday through Friday.
• Effective communication skills to direct crew members and coordinate work on active job sites.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior experience working on school or medical facility construction projects.
• Familiarity with mechanical contractor practices and standards.
• Comfort working on multiple project sites within the Holland and Byron Center, MI areas.
• Demonstrated ability to follow directions from project leadership while also taking initiative in the field.

Work Environment

This is a first-shift position, typically running from 6:00 or 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work is project-based and currently expected to run through at least the end of August, with the potential for an additional 2–3 months of work. You will work on active construction sites for school and medical-related projects in Holland and Byron Center, MI, including locations such as an elementary school and an orthopedic facility. The environment is that of a mechanical contractor job site, involving exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and physical activity such as standing, bending, lifting, and working at heights. You will regularly use hand tools, power drills, and sheet metal fabrication tools while coordinating with other trades and site personnel. Appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment are required to maintain safety and professionalism on site.

This is a Contract position based out of Comstock Park, MI.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Comstock Park,MI.
