Crude Assay Distillation Technician

Job Summary

Through the guidance and direction provided by the department supervisor or manager, the Crude Assay Distillation Technician performs laboratory distillations on petroleum crude oil, crude condensate and various petroleum hydrocarbon mixtures and solvents per test methods ASTM D2892 and ASTM D5236. Crude Assay Distillation Technician is also responsible for performing various bulk property type analysis on petroleum crude oil and the fractions thereof as are produced by the distillation process to determine chemical and physical characteristics.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for working as part of a dynamic team of laboratory staff in a fast pace, high test count, 24/7 production style environment while ensuring professionalism at all times.

• Responsible for promoting, supporting and ensuring compliance to all applicable safety and quality standards.

• Responsible for performing and completing all assigned Laboratory Distillations in accordance with the ASTM standards and procedures used in the laboratory in an independent and proficient manner to include the applicable validation and recording of results obtained from individual tests as performed.

• Responsible for the calibration, set up, adjustment and correct operation of various laboratory instruments and equipment in accordance with applicable standards and technical operation manuals.

• Responsible for performing quality assurance & quality control testing as required for each instrument or test method as are applicable in accordance with quality management practices.

• Responsible for conducting investigations of questionable distillation results and discrepancies to proactively assist in the development of the required corrective actions to resolve issues discovered.

• Responsible for monitoring job/project progress across varying distillation schedules and workflows; to routinely perform concurrent distillations, to multi-task as needed to expedite and meet project deadlines.

• Assist, contribute and participate in all training efforts as required.

• Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Required Skills

• 1 year experience in similar field or industry experience

• Knowledge in crude oil assay distillations per ASTM D2892 and ASTM D5236.

• Position includes overtime, a rotating schedule including weekends, holidays and may include additional responsibilities during off hours. Additional adjustments to work schedule may apply in the form of "on-call" off hours work requirements depending on workload variables.

• Understands and is able to read and interpolate applicable data and tables, interpret applicable graphs and control charts, complete laboratory raw data sheets, and is able to compute rates, ratio, percent and material quantities (linear, volumetric, weight, etc.).

• Able to work well under pressure and in a team environment.

• Possess excellent interpersonal skills and is able to communicate effectively with persons of diverse personalities and backgrounds and to exercise good judgment, common sense and diplomacy in so doing.

• Acts accordingly to the company standards of ethics and integrity.

• Must be able to work with all chemicals, petrochemicals and petroleum products.

Required Experience

Primarily laboratory-based environment.

Working Hours Monday - Friday 3PM - 12AM (Evening Shift - Hours are subject to change if work completion is not consistent).

Working Weekends and Overtime will be required per Crude Assay Manger's requirements due to workload.
