Instruction Department Coordinator (part-time/28 hrs per week) The primary responsibilities for this position are teaching Library Instruction classes, coordinating the scheduling and maintenance of Instruction Department classrooms and Experiential Studio, supervising and training student employees, planning and supporting department events, department purchasing and accounting, and compiling department reports. What you will be doing in this position Library Instruction Program Teaching and Mentoring Teach assigned Library Instruction class sessions for First Year and Advanced Writing, including collaborating with English professors and preparing effective instructional plans. May need to teach outside of regular working hours. Mentor and support non-student employees and student library employees in learning to teach library instruction classes. Assess teaching effectiveness and adjust teaching methods as needed. Classroom/Experiential Studio/Software Training Classroom Coordinator Manage and mediate the schedule for five Library Instruction classrooms. This includes Library Instruction classes, course-integrated Library Instruction classes, other Library classes and trainings, Family History classes, American Heritage review sessions, and campus-wide classroom needs for events/trainings/testing (several thousand per year). Review and schedule use of the Experiential Studio for semester-long classes as part of the Experiential Studio Steering Committee. Mediate other studio reservation requests. Provide daily support for classrooms and the Experiential Studio to ensure that room set up, supplies and technology are in working order. Purchase supplies as needed. Supervise one student employee to support classrooms and studio. Mentor student employees to assist in teaching Library Instruction classes. Department Assistant Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work as part of a team and actively contribute in a community of scholars, teachers, administrators, and students. Administer schedules and assignments for department-wide meetings, projects, and department belonging activities. Reconcile department and unit supplies and budgets. Compile department statistics for library-wide reporting (Annual Department Report and LIR). Create and execute non-student and student unity & belonging events and trainings. Project Management Work with department members on assessment projects Collects and organizes department data Manage projects as needed and as assigned Event Planning Support library-wide events run by the department, department, and unit events, and New Student Orientation such as by purchasing supplies, managing catering, following a budget, and creating documents as needed. Plan Visiting Scholar events, such as scheduling venues and transportation, managing catering, hosting responsibilities, arranging some travel needs, and maintaining a budget. Prepare Information Literacy Faculty events, including managing catering and room setup/cleanup. Works with promoting events and services Professional Development Participate in a variety of professional development activities to enhance skills in both administrative and teaching responsibilities. Continually update knowledge of procedures and technology/software skills. Serves on Committees Relevant to Job Assignment . Attend, participate/train, and serve when assigned as chair/vice chair of the Department Assistant Committee. What qualifies you for this role Education/Experience Minimum Required: One year office or secretarial experience Experience teaching or presenting to adult learners Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Experience supervising/mentoring student employees Experience working in an academic library environment Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications: Required: Organized, detail oriented, and able to manage several projects/responsibilities at one time Excellent communication skills, both oral and written Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, faculty, students and patrons Ability to be a self-starter and problem-solver, including working with minimal supervision and evaluating current practices to increase efficiency and effectiveness Experience in and understanding information literacy, library research resources (including databases) Working knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, LibCal Experience with Workday Teachable, flexible, insightful and enjoy the challenges of supporting a department of diverse responsibilities and programs.
