Clerk - Utility Billing

Compensation - $18.81/hr Position open until filled. BRIEF DESCRIPTION This position is responsible for ensuring that all clerical or accounting recordkeeping work for the Utility Billing Department is accurate and is in completed in accordance with city and departmental procedures and regulations. Greeting and assisting visitors, operating a multi-line telephone system; handling utility billing payments, new account setups and closings, and customer inquiries; resolving utility billing issues; and ensuring accurate input and retrieval of utility billing information. NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Possess a working knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic Possess a working knowledge of office practices and procedures and departmental rules and regulations Possess excellent customer service Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to request clarification when needed Ability to establish and maintain simple clerical records and appropriate filing system Ability to operate a 10 key by touch Ability to meet the general public well and to deal effectively with their questions or problems Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and employees and officials of other departments Ability to work independently with minimal supervisions or assistance Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or its equivalent with clerical courses with at least one (1) year of experience in clerical work or related business school courses may be substituted for experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED A Valid Class C Texas driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND SAFETY HAZARDS Primarily in an indoor environment with the ability to operate outdoors when needed. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold during summer and winter months.
