The 19A Specialist – Driver Compliance plays a mission-critical role in ensuring driver qualification, regulatory adherence, and operational safety. This position serves as a certified NYS 19A Examiner and is responsible for overseeing driver compliance, training, testing, and regulatory documentation at the location level. This role partners closely with management, drivers, and internal departments to ensure full compliance with NYS DMV, SED, and NYC DOE requirements while supporting safe, efficient transportation operations. Position Overview The 19A Specialist – Driver Compliance leads all driver qualification and regulatory compliance functions for the location. In addition to core administrative responsibilities, this role ensures 100% driver compliance with all state and local requirements, administers required training and testing, and supports audits, inspections, and safety initiatives. Key Responsibilities Serve as a certified NYS 19A Examiner and conduct required pre-employment, annual, and biennial driver qualification reviews and testing Train and evaluate drivers on safe driving protocols and required state compliance standards Maintain full compliance with all DMV, SED, and NYC DOE regulations Oversee and maintain driver qualification files, ensuring accurate, complete, and digitized documentation Monitor driver documentation and compliance status; initiate corrective actions as needed Support and coordinate audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews Maintain contract compliance and ensure adherence to all legal mandates Prepare compliance reports, management reports, schedules, and official correspondence Input and extract data from fleet MIS systems to support operational reporting Serve as a point of contact for customers, vendors, and internal teams regarding compliance matters Perform additional duties as required to support operational and regulatory needs Education & Certifications High school diploma or equivalent required Valid NYS 19A Examiner License required SBDI certification strongly preferred, particularly for candidates experienced in safety training delivery Experience & Skills Minimum of 2 years of administrative or office experience Experience in compliance‑driven or regulated environments preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management systems Strong written and verbal communication skills Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information Strong organizational and time‑management skills Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment Professional and collaborative approach when working with Drivers and Monitors Physical Requirements & Work Environment Ability to move throughout the office and facility Ability to operate standard office equipment Ability to access filing systems and documentation Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone First for a reason: At First Student, we are a family of 60,000+ employees who take pride in safely transporting more than 5 million students and passengers to and from their destinations each day!
