Police Officer (Communications Dispatcher)

Summary

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) safeguards the Congress Members of Congress employees visitors and Congressional buildings and grounds from crime disruption and terrorism. We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe secure and open environment.

Duties

Serves as Communications Dispatcher intheCommunications Section (COMM) Command Division Command andCoordination Bureau Office of the Assistant Chief of Police for UniformedOperations United States Capitol Police (USCP). COMM is responsible forfacilitating service calls and information using telecommunications equipmentand automated systems to resolve a variety of issues and to ensure a responsefrom the appropriate emergency service.

Specific duties and responsibilities include but are notlimited to the following:
* Answers evaluates and prioritizes incoming telephone calls to determineurgency and the need for dispatching police fire medical and other emergencyservices.
* Disseminates emergency information to the USCP and the congressionalcommunity by using a Computer-Aided Dispatch system telephones multi-channelradios telecommunication device for the deaf numerous law enforcement andagency databases and automated map systems.
* Monitors alarms and manages control and video security systems.
* Operates and monitors intrusion detection access control Member duresscalls digital videos closed-circuit television and related securityequipment to provide area and visitor surveillance assessments.
* Accesses databases for information warrant checks intelligence and driverslicense and vehicle registration checks.

--Must be a current USCP sworn employee below the rank of Sergeant and have attained the rank of Private with Training. --Must have successfully completed your probationary period by the closing date of this announcement. --Must possess and maintain a valid US REAL ID drivers license. --Must successfully complete all required training.

Successful completion of the 18-week Communication Operators Training Program which includes a one-week Shadow-Phase as well as training in the Washington Area Law Enforcement System (WALES) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) central database. 2. Must maintain all associated required certifications including national certifications by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials WALES and NCIC. 3. Must maintain proficiency with radio and computer equipment as well as security systems and related databases.
