Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

A Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) specializes in monitoring and caring for patients with acute or chronic cardiovascular conditions who do not require intensive care. They work in hospitals, usually in step-down or progressive care units, to interpret EKG data, track vital signs, administer medications, and promptly intervene during cardiac incidents.

Core Responsibilities & Duties

• Cardiac Monitoring: Continuously monitor heart rhythms (EKGs/ECG) and vital signs (blood pressure, (O_{2}) saturation) to identify irregularities.
• Data Interpretation: Analyze data from telemetry machines to spot, record, and report abnormalities in real-time.
• Patient Care: Administer medications, treatments, and post-operative care, particularly for cardiac patients.
• Emergency Response: Quickly respond to changes in patient condition, including initiating CPR and using defibrillation equipment.
• Collaboration & Education: Work with physicians and teams to develop care plans and educate patients/families on heart health and lifestyle.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Active RN License (specifically in the state of employment).
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support) certifications.
• Prior experience in Medical-Surgical or Acute Care settings is often preferred.
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and technical skills to manage monitoring equipment.

Work Environment

Typically fast-paced hospital settings, including step-down units, cardiac care units, or progressive care units. Requires standing for long periods, walking, and the ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
